Union Birthday Sees Dance, Cake, Prizes The Union will celebrate its 20th birthday Friday, May 2, from 5 to 12 p.m. with an as sortment of activities. High School Arts Festival Starts Today Music, Speech, Art Tests Due The School of Fine Arts sponsoring the annual Fine Arts Festival today and Sat urday for students in speech, art and music from Nebraska high schools. Activities are provided by the University departments of music, art and speech. Art Criticism Art students will display their work at the University Art Galleries and receive sug gestions and criticisms on them. Demonstrations on various phases of art will be given by the University staff. Auditions for entry to the department of music will be given to the music students. Fifteen minute instructions will be given by the music school faculty. Voice, band instruments, or chestra instruments and piano organ will be divisions in cluded in the music activities. Students of speech will be trying for Quality ratings in drama readings, public ad dress, oral interpretation, poetry reading, extempora neous speaking, radio and television news commentary and discussion. One-Act Plays Trophies will be awarded for outstanding one-act plays, a new feature in the speech division. Five class A schools and 13 class B schools will be com peting. Phi LanibdS U Honors Initiates Rho Chapter of Phi Lambda Upsilon, honorary chemical society, held its annual ban quet honoring new initiates Thursday evening. Also honored at the banquet was David Eigsti, who was , presented the Outstanding' Freshman award. I New graduate members ! are: Charles Arpke, Charles Geisler, Patrick Hess, Ronald Mitsch, H. ' ballroom with the showing of two films. Tyrone Power and Maiireen O'Hara will be featured in "The Long Grey Line" and Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot will appear in "King Kong". An added attraction will be three color eartoqns, "Three Little Bops," "Gee Whizzzz" and "Mixed Master." There will be a street dance beginning at 8 p.m. on "R" Street between 14th and 15th. Bud Holloway and his orches tra will provide the music. Spring Day awards will be presented at the 10:30 inter mission by Bob Smidt, Spring Day chairman. Trophies will be given to the houses with the most over-all points, the winner of the tug-of-war and the push-ball victors. Dick Masters will be master of ceremonies during the in termission. The grand prize of a 1941 black Chevrolet will be award ed at the intermission draw ing. The car drawing is spon sored by Bob Ring Plymouth. Students may sign up for the drawing at the Spring Day events in the afternoon. Other intermission activities include the performance of skits by Chi Omega and Phi! Delta Theta and the dropping of balloons filled with certifi cates for free food from the Union windows. Special cut rate prices will be in effect in the Crib and the Round-up Room all day. Bargains include brownie-ala-mode, 10 cents: coffee, 5 cents and button bergcrs, 10 cents. A donut machine will be set up in the lobby from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. which will sell donuts at 3 for 10 cents. The Union Board will serve a huge birthday cake during the intermission. The cake will be displayed in the lobby during the day and served from the band shell in front of the Union. Concluding the birthday cel ebration will be a fireworks display at 11:30. Rockets, Ro man candles and other dis plays will be seen through special permission given to the Union. The annual birthday party is sponsored by the Union special activities committee. Two Profs Go On FM iVwc Station Bills Palmer, Meadows Two University professors will have 15-minute programs on the new frequency modula tion Radio station, KFMX. Dr. Edgar Palmer, profes sor of statistics, will present a monthly summary of his widely quoted "U. of N. Busi ness in Nebraska Survey". The new Lincoln station should be on the air within the next 30 days, according to Herbert Burton, general manager. The call letters "Station KFMX" have been applied for and are subject to FCC approval. The major part of the pro gramming will be devoted to fine music, from progressive jazz to light classics and fa mous works. A five minute objective newscast will be presented every other hour. The station plans to avoid sensationalism, nign pres sured sales and jingles, ac cording to Burton. KFMX will broadcast from 5-12 p.m. on weekdays and from 12 noon to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. "It will provide static-free music and a calendar of cul tural activities to the owners of the over 8.000 FM radios in the Lincoln are a," concluded Burton. 'Annie Biggest KK Show Cost May Reach $6,000 "It's the biggest show Kos met Klub has ever presented and the largest amount of staging ever done in the Pershing Municipal Auditor! urn." Six hundred yards of draping' were used in the con struction, to be used for Annie's shooting matches, ceremonial Indian dances and to capture the thrill of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Ballroom Scene "The ballroom is the only scene in the show where cow- b o y s and country people people switch to the extreme of 5th Avenue formality. This set also covers the entire stage," Meisenholder said. The third targe set will be a mobile train. The 25-foot din ing car is used for the scene in which Annie travels from the backwoods into the gla mour of show business.
