Nebraska, with four straight wins which includes a victory over the nation's No. 1 team, will try to break a four year jinx on the Buffalo's home court. Colorado has beaten the Huskers at Boulder the last four years and they post an other ominous threat again this year, despite the fact that the Huskers are red hot The danger that Nebraska may be overconfident after playing the role of giant-slayers wiU be countered by the I fact that six seniors will be playing their last game for the Scarlet and Cream. The seniors are: Gary Rei- mers, Wilson Fitzpatrick, Don Smidt, Jim Kubacki, Jim Arwood, and Jerry Howard. Colorado hasn't exactly been a pushover the past month. They have been beat en by K State by only 4 pts and lost to Kansas in a close decision. They defeated Mis souri Monday 5945. Earlier in the seasn they beat Iowa State while Nebraska has been beated by Iowa State three times. Colorado has a tall team. The forward and center av erage 6-6 while the guards are 6-L L. el.. All the top schools in the Missouri V a 1 1 e y-R o c k e y Mountain area have teams competing in this gymnasts '"World Series". Seven teams in total are competing. They are: Nebraska, Colorado Uni versity, Colorado State Col lege of Education, U.S. Air Force Academy, Kansas State, Hort Hayes Kansas State College and Mankato. Colorado State has last year's defending champion Don Rob inson, in action this year. Robinson was the winner last year of the parallel bars event and tied for first on the hori zontal bar. He is said to be a fine all around gymnast. Ken Kohler, of Nebras ka, won iie side horse event last year and is one of Ne braska's best men. Coach Jake Geier had this to say about Nebraska's chances: "Up until Tues day, I thought Nebraska had an excellent chance of win ning the championship. Tues- day, Nebraska's co-captain j Bob McDonald injured his arm. The medical examina tion which followed revealed he could not enter competi tion. I was counting on "Mac" for the extra points to insure a win. Now I am not too sure. "But we still have a great chance," Geier said. Geier went on to say that it would be real close be tween Nebraska, Kansas State and the Air Academy for first. According to the coach, however, Colorado State has the "green light" due to the absence of Mac Donald. If Colorado State should win, it would even be hotter between Nebraska and the Air Academy for second place. On Friday, the preliminar ies will start at approximate ly 2 p.m. and will go until 5 p.m. They will resume at 7:30 p.m. door meet at Kansas Citv last Saturday. Pollard, who attributes much cf his success as a vaulter to assistant coach Ike Hanseem, cleared 13-10i for the best mark of his career. He nearly cleared 14-4 but his chest nicked the bar iust as he jacknifed over. Despite ms good performance he end ed up in a tie for 3rd which indicates the type of competi tion he faces in the Big 8. Ken, like all the other mem bers of the track squad, thinks the Huskers have a good chance to win the Big 8 out door meet in May. He is con fident of improving his mark before the season is over. Al though outdoor vaulting is no different from indoor vaulting Ken feels the longer run may nelp him crack the Big 8 meet record of 14-3 Vaulting requires a man of better than average physical strength and one who is will ing to work hard. Ken fits these requirements. He keeps his strong arms and shoulders in condition by rope climbing and gymnastics exercises with some running in be tween Ken's accomplishments off the track are equally as good as his performance of last week. He is a Junior in Teach ers College majoring in Inter ior Decorations. He hails from Greenwood, Neb., and was married in December. Ken has an air of confidence about him. The Daily Nebras kan is confident that Nebras ka fans will see Pollard clear the 14 ft bar many times be fore his track days are over. "After thi eipeTieace I looked over power engineering opportunities in a number of companies. I joined Illinois Bell because it promised the most inter esting and ciiaBecging work. That was three rears ago. My work with 1ST has everything that I was looking for. "My job is to engineer the power re cjuiremects for telephone central oSoes. The work never gets routine. One job may be for a new building, the next for expanding existing plant And power needs vary tremendously from little rural dial o faces serving a few hundred tele phones, to big metropolitan telephone plants serving hundreds of thousands. "But what I like best is that I generally handle the job from start to finish. I de termine the operational and emergency power requirements of the facilities to be served, and order the equipment needed. And I m usually on hand during installation to see the job through. "Not only does this kind of engineer ing assignment keep work interesting, but I find it is helping me become a better manager.
