Migration Steals Show

Few activities will take place on
the campus this week due to the
future migration week-end plans of
many of the students.

ments were announced this week

Fedde, for whom the halls are

Miss Fedde, professor emeritus

University faculty from 1914 ' to
1915.
Dean Emeritus Burr of the Col

Civil Service Examinations for
designation to the United States
Military, Naval, and Air Force
Academies will be held Nov. 18,
Phil Weaver, representative from
the first district, announced.
Men who have previously ex
pressed an interest in attending
one of the academies, through
correspondence with Mr. Weaver,
will soon receive authorization to
take the examination and in
formation on the time and place it
is to be given.
The next Civil Service Exami
nation will be held in July, 1958,
and is for an appointment to an
Academy beginning in 19."9.
Those who are interested in
taking this examination for an
appointment should write to the
Congressman at his Washington
office.
Candidates must be between the
ages of 17 and 22, male citizens
of the United States, of good
moral character and physical
condition, and must never have
been married.
"I try to pick individuals who
are most qualified to complete
the four-year course at the va
rious academies," Weaver said.
Selection of candidates is based
partly on information furnished
by the aspirant and the recom
mendations of those he indicated
as references, and on the results
of the Civil Service examination
and the results of College En
trance Examination Board Schol
astic Aptitude Test and Achieve
ment tests in English, Interme
diate or Advanced Mathematics
and Social Studies.
Phalanx To Hold
Smoker Thursday
Phalanx, professional and hon
orary military fraternity, will
have a smoker for all Army,
Navy, and Air Force R.O.T.C. Stu
dents Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., in
the City Campus Union.
Phalanx has prepered an exten
sive schedule for the coming year
which includes orientations on dif
ferent aspects of military life,
plans for the coming drill squad
competition, plan for this year's
Military Ball and various profes
sional programs.
All advanced military, air and
naval science cadets are urged to
attend to learn more about the
fraternity.

Plan Meeting
NUCWA, the Nebraska Univer
sity Council of World Affairs, and
Cosmopolitan Club will hold a
combined meeting Wednesday at
7:30 p.m. in Room 313 of the Un
ion. Bertha Roach Smith will speak
on the topic "You and the United
Nations," in observance of United
Nations Week.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Nebras
ka, has received two degrees from
the University an M. A. in
European history and an A. B. In
arts and sciences, with emphasis
on history and languages. Included
in her extensive travels were four
trips to Europe and a trip around
the world. In two weeks she will
visit the United Nations in New
York for the eleventh time.
Dance Lesson
To Feature
Tango Tonight
The third in the series of Union
dance lessons featuring the tango
will be held tonight from 7 to 6
p.m. according to Sally Downs,
dance chairman.
The lessons are taught by the
Fred Astaire Dance Studio.
The first two lessons have fea
tured the Lindy and the jitterbug.
"The dance lessons have been a
great success this year and every
one has learned a lot," Miss Downs
said. "The next two lessons will
give the students the chance to
learn the tango and rumba and
to improve the Lindy and the jitterbug."
