Coffee breaks and cokes dates, as well as parties, .ban quets and balls have become part of the University tradition. But few realize the amount of time, planning and personel it takes to provide these services. The Union Food Service, under the direction of Steffi Drucker, is responsible for every cup of coffee and plate of food served by the Union. The Service, hectic enough dur ing summer sessions, reached its frantic climax during the first few weeks" when Boys State, Girls State, All State as well as the reg ular flow of customers were the responsibility of Steffi. With her two aids, Marilyn Bickman and Lois DeBelly, she planned, bought, processed, pro duced and sold food for 15,000 meals each for the three high school groups alone. In addition, from 1,200 to 1,500 persons are served each day in the Crib, 500 to 600 in the R o u n d Up Room and several hundred in the Main Dining Room. The Crib, which is the grill, ,1 1 &,f ,Vj I OT 1 I - Nebraska PheU serves about 350 hamburgers and 150 pounds of potatoes each day during its 6:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. operations, Steffi said. The RoundUp Room, as the caf eteria is called, is located at the west end of the main corridor of the Union and provides a more varied meal in quieter surround ings, Steffi explained. For the first time last year this room was opened for a "coffee break time" during the morning and afternoon. These hours will be continued this summer, she said. On the second floor the Main Dining Room is open Monday through Friday for lunches, accord ing to Steffi. Students or faculty members may reserve tables for groups under twelve- who wish to have a iancheon meeting without re s iving a room, she explained. Menues Changed Menues are almost completely changed during the summer ses sion, Steffi explained. The new menues are geared to the older students. Considerably more fruits and vegetables are served, such items as mashed potatoes and gravy are almost completely cut out.
