Regents Laud Hardin For Fine
Job Of Keeping Faculty Intact
The Board of Regents Saturday
commended Chancellor Clifford
Hardin for his "outstanding rec
ord at the University."
Dr. B. N. Greenberg, president,
stated "It is a matter of know
ledge to this Board that Chancellor
Hardin has done an excellent job in
the sometimes hopeless task of
keeping a fine faculty intact."
"He has done an excellent job of
translating the needs of the Uni
versity to the governor and the
members of the legislature."
In other action the Regents ap
proved the appointment of Dr.
Clayton Gerken, director of the
counseling service at the Univer
sity of Iowa, to a similar post
at the University.
Dr. Gerken 's title will be direc
tor of counseling and professor
psychology - and educational psy
chology, effective Sept. 1.
He is a consultant of the Amer
ican Board of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation at Rochester,
Minn, and, Chicago and visiting con
sultant for the Veterans Hospital,
at Knoxville, la.
James Hassler, assistant agri
culture economist at the Univer
sity of California, was appointed
assistant professor of agriculture
economics.
The Regents accepted these res
ignations; Harold Chapman, associate pro
fessor of horticulture, who has ac
cepted a similar position at Colo
rado State College. He has been
a staff member since 1946.
Milo Cox, assistant professor
and assistant agronomist, who has
accepted a post with the Interna
tional Cooperation Administration
in Chile. He has been a faculty
member since 1955.

English, for one year, to accept
a Frank Woods Fellowship.
Robert Morgan, associate profes
sor of political science, who will
be the visiting professor at the
University of Virginia.
Twelve University staff mem
bers were placed on retirement.
They are:
Oliver Collins, associate profes
sor of astronomy, a staff mem
ber since 1919.
Gilbert Sechrist, as professor of
electrical engineering; he has been
a staff members ince 1947.
Eliza Gamble, assistant profes
sor of secondary education, 28
years of service.
