Pledged .More Aid
The University Hungarian Stu

tional boost Thursday when the
Lincoln Rotary Club pledged $60
to the project to be used for the
transportation of one student to
the University from Port of Entry.
The student YMCA, although not
a recognized student organization,
has voted to give full support to
the Project.
The Project Committee has re
ceived an application from the
World University Service, coordi
nators of agencies hnadling the
placing of refugees in universities
throughout the country.
The application asks what guar
antees in regard to housing, tui
tion, books, clothing and mainte
nance funds will be available at
the University.
This application was filled out
and returned immediately, in ord
er that the University can be at
the top of the list in the request for
students, said Barb Sharpe, chair
man of the Project Committee.

Hungarian refugee students in Vi
enna, Austria, has now registered
more than 1000 students.
Of this number, 135 have indi
cated that they would prefer to
resettle in the United States. The
committee anticipates, on the bas
is of interviews in Graz and Vien
na, that at least 150 additional
Hungarian student refugees will
wish to come to America, making
a probable total of 285.
Ocean transportation for the Hun
garian students is 'jeing arranged
by the Intergovernmental Commit
tee for European Migration.
WUS has established procedures
for interviewing students in order
to determine their academic qual
ifications. Although students seek
ing resettlement are young by
American university standards,
they have been studying highly
specialized fields such as medi
cine, engineering, forestry, geo
detics. Almost- half the students regis
tered to date have indicated a de
sire to study one of the branches
of engineering. Others wish to
study medicine, chemistry, human
ities, law, veterinary skills, archi
tecture, business, agriculture, and
economics.
