Bruce Riley, the nimble Husker eaptain, led the . Cornhuskers with live firsts and two thirds, In the free exercise event, Ri ley placed first. He was followed by Steve Carlson of Iowa with Iowa's Bill King placing third or the Huskers, Ervin Krist and Wayne Strickler placed fourth and fifth respectively. The Huskers Krist copped the top honors in the trampoline. The Omaha junior was followed by King with Riley taking third. Iowa's Mike Stotle was fourth and Strickler fifth. Iowa won their only first in the side horse with the Hawkeyes Dick DDohrmann edging out teammate Bill Vogle. Riley was third with NU's Bob McDonalds fourth. Carl Intramural Ballots Due March 15 Selections for the 1956 All-University Intramural Basketball Teams should be turned in to Max Kreitman, Nebraskan sports edi tor. Nominations for both A league and B league should be brought to the sports desk of the Nebras kan office not later than March 15. Those teams not submitting lists will not have any of their players included in the selections. These should be all opponent teams not including any of the teams own members. J These selections will not include J team selections from the tourna ment. - Phi Epsilon Kappa Initiates Twelve Twelve University men were initiated Thursday night into Phi Epsilon Kappa, professional physi cal education fraternity. They are Richard Beechner, Eu gene Gross, Wayne Strickler, James Thorn, John Wilkenson, Daryl Carroll, Ted Westervelt, Ronald Hulse, Donivan Huwaldt, Buddy Lade, Roger Long and Gen Torczon. Charles Miller, acting chair man of the physical education de partment and Phi Epsilon Kappa district counselor, was principal paaker at the meeting. son took fifth spot honors. On the high bar, Riley again proved his superiority by moving past Carlson. Strickler was third with McDonald fourth. Dick David son was fifth. Riley then won the next three events, copping first in the paral lel bars, rings and the tumbling. In the parallel event, Carlson took second with Strickler a close third. Dick Kniper was fourth with God frey Styche fifth. Stan Beebe was second in the rings with Strickler third and Speas fourth, Kniper placed fifth. Carlson again was johnny-on-the-spot for the visitors and took second place against the Nebraska star in the tumbling match. Stotle was third with Krist fourth and NU's Jerry Landwer fifth. Two more matches remain on the Nebraska agenda before the NCAA Championships at Chappell Hill, North Carolina. They meet the Navy Pier here in Lincoln the 9th of March and go to Boulder, Colorado, for the All-College Invitational. They are currently leading the pack with an eight won two loss record. The Wildcats need only to win one of their remaining two con ference games to clinch first place. They play host to the Missouri Tigers on March 3rd and journey to Lawrence, Kansas, on March 6th to oppose Phog Allen's Jayhawks. The Iowa State Cyclones, who are in second place with a 7-4 rec ord, are the only team that can catch the leaders. If Kansas State looses it's next two league games, then the Corn-husker-Iowa State tilt at Ames on March 9th would decide the cham pionship. A Nebraska victory would live the Kansas State five the crown while an Iowa State win would throw the league race into a tie. Morton is one of five lettermen cn th; grappi ng scene for the Cornhuskers. Last year the 157 pound senior was second to Charlie Bryant in team scoring. The Oberlin, Kansas, senior is a two-year letterwinner. Morton has gone through his first six matches of the season in undefeated fashion. In Nebraska's opener against the Minnesota Gophers this year, Mor- rton won a 7-1 desision over Bob .1 I .1 f . ' s Star of the Week ... Arnold Morton, on top, throws his opponnent. to the canvas. Morton gained a 7-4 decision. Baker of the visiting squad. The Gophers downed the Huskers 25-3. In his second match of the sea son, Morton gained an easy 4-0 nod over Gus Glefter of South Da kota. The Huskers trimmed the Sodaks, 20-8. The Huskers had an easy time winning their next tilt against Colorado State and Morton took victory number five. Against the Kansas State Wild cats, Morton disposed of the Wild cat's Dale Blume in the time of 7:27. The Huskers suffered their second loss, 24-10. The Cornhuskers lost their third duel match, bowing to Mankato State, 25-3. Morton gained the only three Nebraska points, downing Mankato's Bob Malcomb. Despite the fact that the Huskers bad to forfeit two matches, Arnold Morton managed to win his sixth straight match, defeating Don Mortimer, 7-4. The Huskers suf fered the loss, 21-13. Only two matches remain on the mat scene before the Big 7 meet at Ames, la. The Cornhusk ers meet the lowa State Cyclones at Ames on Friday and then re turn home for their final duel with the Colorado Buffs Saturday. The match will follow the Nebraska- Oklahoma basketball tilt. In 1954, the Huskers had a dis mal year, losing all twelve of their matches. They finished last in the Big 7 tournament. Oklahoma won the title. Kansas and Missouri didn't compete in the tourney. Other lettermen besides Morton are Jack Bryans, a 147-pound jun ior from Omaha; John Crancer, a 137-pound senior from Lincoln. Marshall Nelson and Jim Owens are the other two-lettermen. Nelson is a junior from Kimball and Ow ens a 130-pound junior from Lin coln Morton is the fourth Star of the Week winner.
