IS THE receiving line were: Mrs. John K. Selleck; Miss Mar jorie Johnston, dean of women: Miss Helen Snyder, assistant dean of women; Miss Mary Augustine assistant to the dean of women: Miss Angeline Anderson, Mortar Board advisor, and Janet Steffen and Barbara Bell, Mortar Board president and vice president re spectively. Af( Graduate To Speech Faculty Post Flick Describes Army Career Clarence Flick, assistant pro fessor in the speech department returned to the University fac ulty Feb. 1. Flick attended the University as an undergraduate from 1938 to 1942. During this period he was co-author of a Kosmet Klub show. In 1942 he joined the Army and was sent to the Pacific as an op erations officer for a regiment of the 31st "Dixie" division. In 1945 Flick was discharged. HE JOINED the speech depart ment faculty in 1946 as an in structor. From 1948 to 1950 Flick went to Northwestern University as a teaching fellow of speech. He returned to the University Sept. 1, 1950, and stayed until Today's r 'Chesterfields for Mo!" Miramare Castle, built over 100 years ago, became Major Flick's temporary home while he was stationed at Trieste. He was joined by his wife, Margaret Ann and two sons, Stephen and Ran dall. WHILE IN Trieste, Flick was assistant operations officer and later operations officer of U. S. troops there. After 18 months in Trieste, Flick returned to New York. His three-act drama, "Return to Surigao," was premiered at the University in 1948. Since 1946 he has produced two 16 m.m. sound films about speech. The plot is an adaptation of "Pickets" (an old war term for reconnaissance scouts) by Rob ert Chambers. The setting is Virginia during the Civil War. THE STORY concerns fratern ization between enemies during the War. It tells the story of two smuts from the North and one from the South, who meet at a river where one of tnem is nsn ing. A temporary truce is called as the movie continues. . "I have long" wanted to do film nn thp Civil War." said San- riprs. "I went throueh about 600 short stories, but I liked this tha best." SANDERS FILMED the pic ture last summer in the moun tains just north of Santa Bar bara, California. He adapted the story to play form and made ar rangements for the cast. "I would like to make three more pictures similar to this and combine them into a feature film," said Sanders, "but that ia a long way off."
