Tuesday, February Z, 1953 Page 4 THE NEBRASKAN For the fourth time in 31 years, commencement exercises were held for University midyear grad uates. The most recent January ceremonies were held four years go, in 1930. Dr. Virgil M. Hancher, presi dent of the State University of Iowa, told the 263 graduates that high hopes on their part are not enough to make a better worid. He said that goals are imperative, and the will and the knowledge to achieve them. Dr. Hancher said, "Moderation, temperance, the golden mean and the Golden Rule could relieve us of much of the unnecessary stress t and strain of modern life. HE URGED graduates to strive toward "the creation of a society whose paramount concerns are the dignity of the individual, the brotherhood of man and the Fatherhood of God." Janet Steffen, senior class rep resentative, introduced Dr. Han cher. Acting Chancellor John K. Selleck presided and conferred the degrees.
