0 0 Friday, October 30, 1953 THE NEBRASKAN rage 3 Rested NU Squad Eyes KU Invasion Oberlin May Be Shelved For Game; Huskers 'Fear Anything' Says Bill By GLENN NELSON Sports Staff Writer ,B1U Glassford's Cornhusker grldder worked without pads Thursday night, reviewing of fensive and defensive patterns in preparation for Saturday's Big Seven contest with the Kan sas Jayhawkg in Memorial Sta dium. The availability of starting center Bob Oberlin for the KU fray loomed as a big question mark. Glassford commented that the big pivot has not recovered from his ankle Injury as rapidly as was hoped. "THE BOYS seem to be in good spirits," the NU mentor said, "and ought to be rested." The varsity squad ran against freshmen earlier this week, with the NU frosh displaying KU play patterns. The Jayhawks will arrive in Lincoln Friday night by train. George Paynich In Vets' Hospital George Paynich, Nebraskan sports editor, is a patient at the Lincoln Veterans' Hospital, where his condition is listed as "fair." Paynich was admitted to the hospital Wednesday and was on the "critically ill" list until he underwent an operation Thurs day for what was described as a "perforated ulcer." Paynich, a two-year Nebraska football letterman, was first hos pitalized by the ailment in Sep tember, 1952, while he was in Washington, D. C. taking gov ernment tests. You'll find a beautiful selection at at the GOLDENROD 21S North 14th St. KU running so far this season has been strong, and although passing has not been a great part of the Kansas offense, the Husk ers are set to "fear anything," Glassford said. 'ALTHOUGH THE Scarlet has won but once in six starts, It carries formidable potentiality. Quarterback John Bordogna is the Big Seven's top passer. Right halfback Dennis Korinek is the 1 o o p's fourth-ranking rusher with 316 net yards. He also is running third in pass receptions with four for 147 yards. NU will confront the Jay hawks with the heftiest line the Jays will see all year, a 217 pound average from tackle to tackle. With Quarterback John Mc Farland enjoying his best day with a five for 13 and 73 yards performance against Southern Methodist, Kansas hopes to un track its air game Saturday. In contrast with recent seasons, the Jayhawks are traveling at a mere 45.7 yards per game air pace, and haven't scored through the sky in six starts.
