When Adduci
euierrred as to the presence of
his old side-kick Joe Ponseigo,
the burly Adduci chuckled, "He
ot stuck in Korea."
Anvone familiar with these
two shady characters from Chi
cago would find a strangely fa
miliar tale in Ponseigo's Korean
tour of duty while Nick was in
Germany on a guided tour with
the medics.
THE PLAIN craziest character
we've run up against in our stay
at Nebraska has been Phile Gable.
Gable was a beautifully built;
end candidate from New York I
City who was Just a shade slower !
than Franny Nagle. The latter
was the slowest member of the I

THE ATHLETIC offices was
puzzled by the echoing sound of
gunfire seeming to originate
frnm the fieldhouse. One of the
coaching staff was dispersed to j
see what the trouble could pos- I
sibly be.
The Husker coach was per
forming his duty as sleuth when
he spied 6able sprawled out on
his bunk.
"Oh Phil, no one around here
has been shooting a gun have
they?"
"Hell yes. said Phil uncover
ing a pistol from beneath his
pillow. "These rats overhere will
eat you alive."
ANOTHER TALE they tell
bout: Mr. Gable was wrapped
iround a telephone bill.
It seems that Phil had been
sing the free telephone pro
vided for football players for
local calls. The trouble was that

final practice Thursday in pre
paration for Saturday's invasion
of Kansas State. Coach Bill
Glassford reported his squad in
near top shape for Saturday's
fray.

bruised shoulder suffered in
Tuesday's scrimmage, will be

Mixed Net
Tournament
By MITZIE MITCHELL
A mixed tennis doubles tour
nament, sponsored by the Wo
men's Athletic Association and
the Men's Intramural Program,
is scheduled to begin Oct. 6. This
is the first mixed tournament
that has been scheduled in re
cent years.
All women who are interested
in participating should leave
their names in the WAA office
at Grant Memorial Hall, and
men should sign up at the Intra
mural office in the Men's Physi
cal Education Building. All en
tries are due by 6 p.m. Friday.
THE COUPLES will be paired
by drawings; however, if a
couple wishes to enter together,
the two names should be sub
mitted at both offices. If an un
even number of Vnen and women
wish to enter the tournament,
those submitting their names
first will be scheduled.
Games will be played Tues
day and Thursday evenings from
7 to 9 p.m. on courts 5 and 6.

cer leagues is underway. Quar
terfinals will begin Monday.
