With Fred Seger and Jim
Buchanan showing the way, Ne-
orasKas DasKetballers climbed
back on the victory trail Tuesday
night with a 59-43 win over
Northwest Missouri State.
Buchanan paced the Ilusker
scorers with 16 points, but it
was the always moving Seger
who ignited the Nebraska of
fense and ended the four-game
Bearcat win streak.
Holding a 36-32 half time lead,
Harry Good's boys were forced to
go the limit before shaking the
nusmng Missourians. Dick Buck'
ridge, mainspring of the visitors
attack, netted 16 tallies to share
nigh game honors with Buchanan.
His chief support came from vet
eran George Nathan who chalked
up 11 points.
Nebraska's superior height and
a successful fast break offense
proved the difference. It was
Seger, a sophomore guard from
Omaha Benson high, that engi
neered the victory drive with
his topnotch passing and rugged
rebound work.
The Huskers lumped to an earlv
ieaa on iieia goais Dy Buchanan
and Stan Matzke. along with a
free toss by Matzke. The Bearcats
got into the act on a one-pointer
by George Coulter, and a field
goal by Dick Buckridge. For the
bcarlet, Seger hit his first of five
:"ree throws to make the score 6-3
Nebraska.

field goal and a free toss to
raise Nebraska's total to nine.
The Missourians then closed the
gap, as free throws by Ono
Monachino and George Nathan
along with buckets by Nathan
and Buckridge boosted the
Bearcats' count to nine. Seger
dunked a free toss to make the
first quarter score 10-9 Ne
braska. The Missourians, dominating
play in the first half of the second
period, rolled to a 19-13 lead mid
way in the frame for their biggest
lead of the night.
Scoring leader for the Bearcats
in the second quarter was Buck
ridge with three two-pointers and
two free tosses. Teammates Bob
Wright and Nathan added two
points apiece to run the visitors
second period total to 12.
For Nebraska it was Fireball
ing Seger, who led the way,
counting five points on two
fieideYs and a free shot. Char
ley Ott, Buchanan and Clark
Smaha each scored two-pointers,
and Don Weber flipped two

in the third canto the visitors
managed to stay within range of
the Huskers, seldom trailing by
more than three points.
But the sharpshooting of Bucky
Buchanan, Otto, Willard Fagler
and Matzke more than made up
tor the scoring done by the Bear
cats' Chuck Ramsey, Nathan,
uucKridge and Coulter.
Coulter started the third
frame with a free shot, but
Buchanan topped that with a
field goal. The Bearcats' Na
than drove in for a layup two
pointer, and followed this ef
fort with a free toss. Husker
Don Weber countered with a
free shot, and Buchanan plunk
ed in a set shot from the left
side. Ott added two on a two
handed jump shot to make the
score 30-25 with four minutes
remaining in the third period.
The Missourians again closed in
on the home club as Ramsev.
Buckridge and Coulter combined
for five points. Buckridge and
Ramsey hit long, looping fielders
and Coulter dunked a charity
throw, raising the visitors' score
to 30 points. Matzke keDt the
Huskers out in front with a field
goal, making the count 32-30.
Then Cornhusker Fagler set
the nets ablaze with two fast
shots from the floor to give the
Nebraska total an upward kick.
Bearcat George Nathan potted
a field goal in the waning min
utes of the quarter to make the
third period score Nebraska 36,
Northwest Missouri 32.
Nebraska's fast break, sadlv
neglected in the first 30 minutes,
turned the ball game into a one
sided affair the fourth canto. The
Huskers chalked up 23 points I
with their fireball tactics. Matzke,:
beger, Fagler, Bill Johnson and
Buchanan ended up on the scor
ing end of the downcourt rushes
Buchanan looked especially sharp
