Sorenson of the University has been named the United States representative on a staff of seven international ed ucators to conduct a special school for teachers from 30 na tions at Montreal, Canada, this summer. Purpose of the school, planned and financed by the Educational, Scientific, and Cultural organiza tion of the United Nations, is to place emphasis on the need for international understanding in the teaching of geography throughout the world. Leave of Absence Dr. S o r e n s on's appointment came through the Paris office of UNESCO, and the University has granted him a leave of ab sence for six weeks in July and August. During his absence, his position as director of the Uni versity's summer session and chairman of the department of educational services will be filled by Dr. Wesley C. Meierhenry, as sistant professor of history and .principals of education. The international school for teachers will run from July 12 to August 22 at MacDonald Col lege of McGill University. Its staff will include members from Brazil, Belgium, England, Can ada, Australia. The enrollment will be limited to 70. Co-Author. Dr. Sorenson is the co-author of a series of geography tetxts and for two years worked on the development of Nebraska's grade school curriculum in a coopera tive effort between the Univer sity and the Nebraska depart ment of public instruction. He has been a member of the Uni versity staff since. 1939 and dur ing the past three years has made a special study of the United Nations and UNESCO. Need a place to stay? Boys, Girls States Draw 550 Prepsters A week of studying Nebraska state government by conducting a miniature state is in store for more than 550 high school jun iors this week from all over Ne braska. The 300 boys and 250 girls who are attending their respec tive Boy's State and Girls' States on the University campus this week are holding a government laboratory to examine the func tions of state government. They will conduct their own elections and appoint officers correspond ing to actual state officials. Boys' State election results are to be announced Tuesday with inauguration ceremonies sched uled for Tuesday evening. Girl f'tateis will wind up their elec tions Thursday with inaugura tion Friday at, the state capitol. Included in the week's activ ities are a visit to the State cap itol to examine the work and meet the official of the office each individual holds; a three hour examination of a manual sent to the group prior to their arrival in Lincoln; and lectures on state government by officials. Gov. Val Peterson will address both sessions. He will speak to the Boys Staters Wednesday evening. Chief Justice Simmons will conduct a general assembly of the boys, and speak at Girls' state. The third annual Boys'-Girls' State dance will be Friday from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m., in the Union ballroom.
