Coach Tony Sharpe said that the frosh were slated to play the 13' squad in a preliminary game ; to the university game with South i Dakota State Teachers college, but I tho nlans wpro rhanrrpH hrranr I as of Tuesday, the "B" squad is unprepared to field a team. The frosh team has been work ing mostly on fundamentals. Coach Sharpe implied, so the game Saturday should indicate very little as far as team play is concerned. Last year Lawry, a 6-3 defensive player from Omaha, scored 90 points to help the Cornhusker cause. Heading the list of South Da kota State players is Capt. Don Bartlett. 6-0 forward from Cen terville. South Dakota. As a fresh man in 1947. Bartlett scored 12 points against the Huskers. The Sodak quintet, after losing their opening game to a strong Mankato Teachers team, 38-37, proposes a serious threat to the Cornhuskers hopes for an easy victory. Other starters for the Jackrab bits are Kermit Nelson, Robert Murphy, Herb Bartling and Bill Cook. Nelson. 6-1 junior from Brook ings, will be playing opposite Bartle'i in a forward slot. Two -Man Affair. The South Dakota State scoring machine is a two-man affair with Bartlett and a Bartling doing themselves justice in field goal statistics for the Jackrabbits. The man picked to hold down Nebraska's All-Big Seven center, Bus Whitehead, is 6-6 Cook, vet eran center for the Sodak five. Filling out the first quintet is Murphy, the only sophomore on the squad, and his 6 feet boosts the Jackrabbits height average to j better than 6 feet. Leading the Huskers in their first appearance, Anton Lawry will start at forward and also as game captain for the Huskers. At 6-3 Lawry, a two time letterman, should use his height to good ad vantage in rebounding under both boards. Last Season. Two of the first five, Bob Cerv and Bus Whitehead, will be play ing their last season for the Corn huskers. Last year Cerv and Whitehead were regular members of the winning Nebraska team and together they contributed a total of 454 points, which proved influential in the Big Seven title race. Joe Malecek, forward defensive giant for the Huskers, will start the Sodak encounter opposite game captain Lawry. The remaining guard position on the Nebraska squad will be filled by either Bob Gates or Larry Walsh. Coach Harry Good will be hop ing for a one-sided score in the Husker-Jackrabbit clash in order to give the , sophomores on the Nebraska team a chance to prove their ability under actual game conditions.
