Big 7 Host
To Michigan

Basketball fans will get a pre
view of the 1949-50 Big 7 basket
ball campaign December 27.
Kansas City, Mo., will be host
to the annual pre-season tourna
ment of the Missouri Valley In
tercollegiate Athletic association
(Big 7).
The University of Michigan
will be guest team for the four
day event. The Wolverines won
the Big 10 crown in 1948 and
finished the 1949 season in third
place. In their final court ap
pearance of 1949 they defeated
Illinois, the champion, by 13
points.
Oklahoma held the spotlight in
last vear's tourney as they easily
took "top honors. The Cornhusk
ers scored one victory over guest
team Harvard and dropped de
cisions to Kansas State and Mis
souri. Oklahoma will meet Iowa State
nnd Kansas State will tangle with
Kansas in the opening round. The
second round will pit Nebraska
HRainst Colorado and Missouri
against Michigan.
Tickets will go on sale De
cember 1 with priority given to
those purchasing tickets for all
four nights.
Ticket prices are $1.00, $2.00
and S:100 for night games and
SI 00 for afternoon games. There
will be no reserve seats for the
afternoon games. Mail orders
should be sent to Clyde Baker,
Municipal auditorium, Kansas
City, Mo. Twenty-five cents
should accompany the order for
mailing costs and insurance.
Agronomy Major
To Altend Meet
John Wilkinson, Ag junior, was
elected delegate to the annual Na
tional Society of Agronomy meet
ing Nov. 2C in Chicago, last
Thursday evening.
Wilkinson, an agronomy major,
is to represent the Tri-K club of
Nebraska in the student s section
of the national organization.
Tri-K initiation was also held
last week with a total of 65 men
joining the club. This is believed
to be the largest initiation class
on record.

Only one bowling team re
mained unbeaten as the Intra
mural play reached the half-way
mark. Cotner House is that
team and is currently riding on
top of the Denominational league
with eight wins. The Christians
took three straight from the
Methodists last wek to up their
total.
Sigma Nu lost their first game
of the -vear, going down in front
of Kappa' Sigma in the third
game of witch after, win
ning the first two.' The 2-1 vic
tory left the Sig Nu's still far out
in front in Fraternity league I
with 11 wins to their one loss.
The Kappa Sigs are currently in
second spot with a 7-5 record,
The Pros also suffered their
first defeat last week in taking
a 2-1 victory. The loss dropped
the Pros into a tie for first with
the fast rising Nisei who won
three straight from Phi Delta Phi.
! Both have 11-1 records. Alpha
Kappa Psi is the third place team
' with a 9-3 record.
Sis Alphs Gain Tie.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon dropped
the AGR's 2-1 to climb into a first
place tie with Zeta Beta Tau in
Fraternity league II. The ZBT's
were at the same time helping the
Sib Alph cause, losing 1-2 to Pio
neer Co-op. Both leaders now
sport records of nine wins and
three losses and Pioneer is in third
position with a record of 8-4.
' Phi Gamma Delta increased
their narrow lead in league IV by
dropping one contender, Delta
Tau Delta, two games to one. The
other contender, Phi Kappa Psi,
was at the same time dropping
two games to Sigma Phi Epsilon.
The Phi Gams now hold a 10-2
record while the Phi Psr's and
Delts arc two games behind with
8-4.
Theta Xi's lead in league III
was increased when they won
over Beta Sigma Psi, 2-1. while
second place Delta Sigma Pi was
losing to the lowly Phi Delts, 1-2.
Theta Xi now has a two game
margin over the Delta Sig Pi's
with a 10-2 record to date.
Dorm C Geology Battle Looms
The Independent Volleyball
championship will be decided be
fore Thanksgiving when unbeaten
Geology meets once beaten Dorm
C in the last game for each team.
The two teams won Monday night
to set the stage for the crucial
game. Dorm C walloped Ne
braska Co-op 11-1, 11-3, 8-11 for
their victory while Geology re
ceived a forfeit from Ag Men's
Club. '
Remember, everyone. The In
door track meet begins the first
day after Thanksgiving Vacation
with the prelims of the 50 yard
dash at 5 p. m.

Player Award
To Tom Novak
Nebraska's brilliant center and
linebacker has been named recip
ient of the Frank Palumbo Play
er's Player of the Year trophy
which is given each year by the
Pop Warner foundation of Phila
delphia. In citing Novak for this honor,
the Foundation said, "Novak was
chosen as the player's player of
the year in college football be
cause of his outstanding perform
ance and leadership against op
position superior to his own team.
Novak will receive this trophy
