CMtof Union to Mark Starting Point Of Festivities Follow the crowd to the open ing of Homecoming house dis plays, follow the crowd to the Carillon tower dedication cere monies, and then follow the crowd to the Union where the big Home coming eve rally will begin. Student spirit was at its best Thursday night at the prc-rally hanging of the Jayhawk which opened Homecoming week end celebrations. Begins at Union Tonight's rally will begin at 8 p.m. in front of the Union, im mediately following the dedica tory recital of the Carillon bells. Dedication ceremonies will be gin at 7 p.m. when the entire attention of campus activities cen ter on that site. All homecoming house decorations and house lights will be turned off during the ceremonies. Students are asked to follow cheerleaders. Tassels and Corn Cobs from the dedication site to the Union for the parade. Fire works will be set off at the head of the parade followed by the University band in full dress uni fornt. The victory bell and cheer leaders will follow the band pud lead the crowd in songs and cheers as they progress back to the bell tower where the main part of the rally will be held. The parade will go down R street to ICth, down sorority and fraternity row to Vine and over to the tower site. Using the bell tower, which will lie Hooded by spotlights as a background and a large Univer sity sign and platform, the rally will form on the south side of the tower. Cheerleaders and other officials will stand on the platform in front of the tower, the band will stand directly in front of the plat form and a block of Tassels and Corn Cobs will stand behind the band, backed by the student body crowd. Every member of the Nebraska football team will be introduced to the crowd individually by Coach Hill C'tlassford, as part of the pro gram. l ive Pep Queen Candidates The main event of the rally will be the urescntation of five 1!)49 Pep Queen candidates who will be introduced to the crowd. These candidates were nomin ated in a Tassel election. Quali fication required nominies be a member of Tassels, maintaining a 6 average, and be of sophomore or junior standing. Voting will take place in the Coliseum and the Union lobby immediately following the dis pcrsement of the rally. Students will have to present their identifi cation cards to be able to cast a vote. The winning candidate will be presented at the Homecoming dance in the Coliseum Saturday night. Last year's queen, Mary Helen Mallory, chosen from a group of eight candidates, will reign over half time festivities at the football game Saturday after noon.
