Considered in
Budget Request
The University, in requesting a
20 percent increase in its oper
ating budget, has pointed out '.hat
this investment has yielded big
dividends through the benefits of
University research.
Several examples have been
given of these benefits derived by
the state from University research.
A number of years ago Univer
sity scientists developed a new va
riety of wheat which has yielded
an average annual increase in in
come from this crop of 12 mil
lion dollars.
A control serum for swine ery
sipelas, developed by a Univer
sity scientist, has saved Nebraska
farmers millions of dollars in hog
losses annually.
The University has also con
ducted research in livestock feed
ing. Research by University sci
entists has developed the balanced

More or Less Social . . .
ISA Turns Every Season
Into Busy -Social Season
BY JEAN FOWLER
Every season of the year, either
:ultural or natural, finds ISA busy
with corresponding activities.
Included in the activities sche
dule are hour dances, one of which
is being held this month. These
dances give the fellows and girls
a chance to get acquainted and
are always enjoyed by all. Though
there is no set schedule for these
dances, there is generally one held
once a motth.
NEXT ON the agenda is one of
the unusual cvonts known as the
Rum's Ball. Many odd and un
usual costumes are to be seen at
this annual occasion. During the
:ourse of the evening, six finalists
are presented, one of whom will
be presented at the ISA Spring
Dance as ISA Sweetheart.
Last year's winner was Flo
Armold. She is to be entered this
year, near the end of April, in a
national contest to find a national
sweetheart for ISA.
The Spring Dance, tit which the
ISA Sweetheart is featured is al
mild, ripe, light tobacco. No wonder more indepen

ways a favorite. The soft music
and mellow weather coupled with
pastel formals and soft lights
make this a particularly enjoyable
event.
WITH THE first sign of spring
the picnic season swings into full
force. ISA picnics are popular
both in the fall and spring. How
ever, spring seems to add that
necessary something to this activ
ity and with the approach of warm
weather, many ISA members are
seen venturing out into the air
and toward the countryside. In
tact, plans are now being made for
a picnic which . ill be the climax
of a successful social season.
