Ajj Love Hall
Lives Swede
Life for Week
Residents of Love Memorial
hall have lived in Swedish tra
dition the past week in anticipa
tion of the coming UNESCO
program.
Jeanne Weilage, Swedish na
tional commission leader, started
the ball rolling last Monday
wi.tn the girls celebrated St.
Lucia's day. Celebrated in honor
of St Lucia, a Christmas saint
of Sweden, the day is the first
of the Swedish, Christmas holi
days. According to legend, St.
Lucia rose early in the morning
to serve coffee and rolls to mem
bers of the household. To follow
tradition, girls at Love hall
started festivities at 5:30 Mon
day morning, serving coffee and
Swedish buns.
Snyder Represents St. Lucia
Highlighting the program was
Lucille Snyder, dressed as St.
Lucia in a white gown and a
crown of nine candles and
greenery.
In the evening the house meet
was devoted to a program cen
tered around Sweden. Swedish
folksongs were learned and the
tradition of St. Lucia was ex
plained. Each of the seven study groups
gave a summary of their work
for the UNESCO program fol
lowed by a general discussion.
Fancy Swedish sandwiches were
served as refreshments.
Future IMans Made.
Future plans centered around
the UNESCO program include a
bulletin board a the hall of
items of current interest about
Sweden and about UNESCO it
self. At their first meeting after
vacation, the girls will have a
visual aid film on Sweden. Flans
are also being formulated to have
a fine arts team come to the hall
to tell about Swedish music and
dance. The Swedish legation and
the U.S. embassy in Sweden have
been contacted by the UNESCO
workers in the hall.
Helen Ochsner, who was in
Sweden this summer in a rural
youth exchange program, is
planning an exhibit of souvernirs
as a background for study.
An Clubs Plan
Joint Meetings
Representavties of the Block &
Bridle. Varsity Dairy, and Poul
try clubs met last week to draw
up ptans whereby the three clubs
will hold joint meetings each
month. The second Thursday of
each month has been set as the
date for the meetings.
Numerous advantages are be
lieved to be derived from this
plan. A similar operation is now
in progress on the Iowa Stale
campus. Among the advantages
two are important: first, by joint
meetings the clubs will be able
to acquire well-qualified speak
ers. They will stimulate the in
terests of club members in some
phase of agriculture. Second, a
greater interest in meetings
should rsult in better attendance
by members.
The clubs will still retain their
individuality. After the joint
meetings the separate organiza
tions will conduct their regular
business meetings.
One main result of these joint
meetings will be that Ag stu
dents can belong to only one
