Theta Xi's intramural football team passed its way to a 12 to 0 victory over Alpha Sigma Phi on the east mall Wednesday. The Theta Xi's uncorked a blazing attack which brought them within pay dirt twice1 in the first half, but a stubborn defense kept them from scoring. The second half proved to be a repeat performance of the first with the Theta Xi's capitalizing on their passing ability to gain yardage. Verge Mundhanke pulled the game out of a stalemate as he intercepted a pass and ran to pay dirt. Bob Bale scored the other touchdown in the waneing minutes of the game. Mandhanke proved to be the outstanding player on the field Open Swim In Coliseum All men students are invited to swim for fun each day Mon day through Friday from 4 p. m. to 5:30 p. m. and on Saturday from 10 a. m. to 12 noon ac cording to L. E. Means, director of physical education. A swimming permit must be obtained at student health and be presented to the cage atten dant in the Coliseum before the student goes into the pool. Baskets may be obtained at the cage by depositing one dollar with cage attendant and then purchasing a towel for each swim for five cents. Locker and towel service in the Coliseum basement may be ob tained by paying a fee of three dollars at Room 102 in the P. E. building. Sterkle's 30 yard pass to Sterkle in the end zone forced the game into overtime. The Tekes out-yarded Sig Alphs in the extra period to eke out a victory. ' The Sig Alphs drew first blood in the opening period. Hansen fumbled while attempting to punt on the fourth down, and Sig Alphs took over on the Teke 28. Hale passed to Creed for a first down on the 16. Hale then found Rumpp in the end zone for a touchdown. The pass for point was incom plete, and the half ended with Sig Alphs leading 6 to 0. The teams battled on even terms through the second half until, with only two minutes re maining, the Tekes took over the ball in midfield. Parch in ran to the 30 for a first down. Two pass es failed, then, with time for only one play, Sterkle's heave tied the game. Parchin slipped while at tempting the point and the regu lation time ended with the score tied. Sigma Nu used a sleeper play to down Brown Palace 13-0. Andy Button passed to Bob Isham for tthe first score. Bob Hind and Walt Samuelson set up the next touchdown in the second quarter with a long pass. Bob Hind scored off tackle on the next play. The Sig Nu's gave Hind perfect blocking for his 15 yard touch down drive. V: Nebraska's Cornhuskers will be at full strength for Minnesota this weekend and they will need to be, according to scout Ray Prochaska who returned from Seattle where he watched the Gophers blank the University of Washington, 20-0. Coach Potsy Clark opened scrimmage this week with instruc tions explaining how to cover kickolfs and punts. The Corn huskers were letting the Iowa State punt and kickoff receivers thread back much to far in the opening contest. Ferguson Improves The Cyclones lugged back six Nebraska punts for a total of 87 yards. They also ran off 133 yards with five kickoffs. Steady improvement in the play of sophomore Gerald Ferguson of Scottsbluff was one of the high lights. Gerry was running hard and had an average of 40 yards on punts despite the fact that one of his nine kicks was blocekd for a safety. He completed three of eight passes. Promotions Indicated Cornhusker coaches know that all foes will spray forward passes over the gridiron because of Ne braska's stubby backfield. Iowa State managed to complete nine for 135 yards, one of which scored a touchdown. However, three of the 21 passes which the Cyclones threw were intercepted. Early practices indicated some promotions for members of the scout team who have been show ing real hustle in the workouts. The squad will be quartered at the Curtis hotel and will remain overnight Saturday, leaving for Lincoln at 8:45 Sunday morning. Aguaquettes Hold Splash Tryouts Aquaquettes will have its an nual tryouts on Oct. 7 and 14 at the Coliseum pool at 7 p. m. All girls who know how to swim and like the sport are cor dially invited to come to the try outs. A .health permit is required for the tryouts and may be ob tained at the student health cen ter. The Aquaquettes are a group of selected swimmers whose pur pose is to further the interests of swimming and to enjoy the sport.
