C. E. Conners Wins Union
Ping-Pong Championship
Iowa State Cyclones Will Play
Six Home Games This Season
Champion in the Union's sum
mer ping pong tourney last Sat
urday was Charles E. Conners who
defeated Paul J. Baker in the
finals by winning three games out
of five.
Baker was named runner-up
and the two players received pro
fessional ping pong paddles as
prizes.
Conners defeated Milton Tri
linsky in the first round and
William Stephan in the second
to earn a place in the final com
petition. The first two rounds
were played on the basis of win
ning two games out of three
while the finals on the basis of
three games out of five.
Consolation prize was won by
Trilinsky in playoffs among the
losers in the first round.
Others entered in this open
singles tourney were Dean Mitch
ell, L. L. Nicholson, M. E. Bitch
ford and M. D. Bondy.
Dale Bloss Is
Tennis Singles
Champion
Summer school tennis singles
champion at the University of Ne
braska is Dale Bloss of Wayne,
Neb., a graduate student in phyi
cal education and education.
Bloss defeated G. Paul Miller of
Goshen, Ind., and more recently
a high school coach from Kansas
by a score of 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

is sure for the 1948 football . sea
son Iowa State fans can't com
plain about not getting to see the
Cyclones in action often enough!
Six home games will be played
by the Cardinal and Gold grid
ders this fall, the greatest num
ber in more than 30 years. Nor
is quality to be sacrificed for
quantity for both Big Seven co
champions Oklahoma and Kan
sas and Michigan State, one of
the top independent teams of the
nation, will play at Ames. Other
home foes include Iowa Teachers,
North Central conference champs,
Drake, and Colorado, long a
Rocky Mountain power. It will
be the first official conference
grid appearance of the Colorado
team in Ames.

Miller won his right to play in
the finals by victories over G.
N. Watkins and Al McCallum.
Miller has a chance to still
come up with a championship for
the summer, however, since he is
now in the finals of the Horse
shoe tournament. He meets Bill
Kushman in the finals this week
to decide the title. Previously
Miller eliminated Max Peterson
and Floyd Schelby, while Bill
Kushman won from both Arnold
Firnhaber and Roscoe Heins.
