rage 4 THE SUMMER NEBRASKAN Tuesday, Tune 22, 1943 Firemen Find Slight Damage At Love Library Thursday v: w ., . -r"sfe:. . fliiill I fl I rpi-ipl I All of Lincoln's available fire fighting equipment was rushed to Love Memorial library last Thurs day. The library is pictured above. Answering an alarm, firemen found two squares of a ceiling surfacing material charred and fallen into a modernistic lighting fixture. It was suggested by Fire Chief E. P. Feaster that defective elec tric wiring might have caused the fire damage. He also suggested that fire hazards in the building might be reduced through removal of shreds of excelsior found near one of the air conditioners and through removal of a boardwalk in the building's attic. Fire would endanger the thou sands of books and some rare or irreplaceable volumes of antiquity that are housed in Love Library. At present it contains the famed United Nations exhibit which is the only exhibit of its kind in ex istence. The exhibit will be in the library until about June 24. It was brought to Nebraska as an educational experiment to teach people about the nature and op erations of the United Nations. The educational program may de velop into one of international scope. The conference, in a final shot at inadequate teacher training courses, adopted a report from its basic course committee which said teacher training schools should make available counseling and guidance fundamentals for all students who expect to teach. The committee was hitting at the principle that it is the teach er's responsibility to provide not only academic training, but also the help the students need with their individual problems. J. Woods of the University of Omaha, head of the committee, had this to say about teacher training institutions: "There, is an apparent reluc tance on the part of teacher trainers to introduce new courses or reorganize existing ones to ade quately implement a trainin program for personnel workers.
