There appeared in Tuesday's Daily Nebraskan an article listing and clarifying a set of Ag campus election rules drawn up by the recently elected Ag Exec board. The board obviously had good purposes in mind and honestly tried to draw up a set of rules that would be the beginning of a fair election system on that campus. This was the result of a number of complaints offered on both Ag and city campuses after the last spring election. One point, the fifth, is a new addition and one which will not fulfill the board's hopes for fair, democratic elec tions. The rule states: "Ballots will not be valid or counted unless the voter votes for the required number of candidates for each office. Ballots will specify this for the voter." ! Explanation given in the article for such a rule statejq5 that "when voters ars allowed to vote for as few as they wish, various political groups can gain unfair advantage by voting only for their 'favorite son' while students not thus organized would spread their vote among several candi dates." The article also stated that there is still some question as to whether this is a good rule since voters would not necessarily know everyone on the ballot. There doesn't seem to be any question about it. The. rule is not a good one. By making such an election pro vision in voting, the Ag Exec board is merely saying that students must vote for the specified number for an office whether they know the candidates or not. It is obvious that from an entire list of candidates for office, there will probably be quite a few unfamiliar names to most voters. If, in order to vote for his favored candidates and in order to make his ballot valid, a student if forced to mark down names that he has never seetr before, it is wot fair to htm as a voter. Such provisions are not made in city, county, state, or national election ballots. So, why include such a rule in a campus election? In the judgement of this writer, the Ag Exec board has made a mistake in their election rules. It should be rectified. J. K. THE DAILY NEBRASKAN Thursday, May 20, 1948 J. One delivery per day is sched uled. The service covers the air port area with its several in dustries as well ss the housing settlement. Carrier Deli?rS 709 Letters Joe Kubert, a regular carrier assigned temporarily to Husker ville cased his mail at the main office- early and at 9:15 a. m. Wednesday started his trip. He delivered ' 700 letters and 300 packages, circulars, newspapers and magazines. Postmaster O. E. Jerner re ported that 550 mail boxes were set up at the curb in Husker ville. The service replaces a long walk, more than one mile in some instances, from apartments to contract station No. 5. This is the seventh mounted city mail rpu'e. General Delivery' Continued. It was estimated that 70 per cent of the mail addressed to persons employed or living at the field was delivered Wednes day by mounted carrier. Ail mail formerly went to the station for general delivery, and mail that is not addressed as to street num ber and apartment is sent there now. Some householders living a short distance from the station may also continue to use general delivery.
