Wednesday, April 28, 1948 THE DAILY NEBRASKA Page 3 45 Enrolled In Red Cross Water Glass Approximately 45 men have started into the second week of life saving and water safety courses conducted in the Coli seum . pool by the American Red Cross. The courses are being conduct ed by Marvin Hersey of York, who is an American Red Cross field representative in the aquatic section. -Kersey is being assisted by Coach Hollie LepUy, Webb Emory, Lincoln high school swim ming coach, and Warren Wallis, Red Cross field representative from Wyoming. Future Life Guards. The water courses are given to those meiwho plan to act as life guards or plan to do teaching this summer. Through the training, the Red Cross hopes to promote better water safety in Nebraska and its areas. Coach Lepley said that any football men who wish to take the course will be able to start Monday in the Coliseum pool. Several of Nebraska's athletic lettermen are taking .the course. Included among these are Dick Schleiger, basketball N man; Phil Sprague, gymnast; Marvin Grimm and Jack Campbell, Husker swim ming lettermen. - t IM Department Offers Special Golf Tourney Nebraska University's Intra mural department will conduct a golf specialties tournament start ingMay 13. '. The two events will be driv ing for distance and pitching for accuracy. Any man in school ex cept members of the varsity golf squad and golf letter men may participate in the tourney. Contestants may do their shoot ing from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., May 13, or 8:30 to 12:00, May 15. The tee-off point will be west of the Coliseum. Driving Rules. Each man will furnish his own golf balls, and no practice shots will be allowed from the tee. Each contestant will be allowed three shots. Places will be determined by total distance made oy the three (or less) balls scored. In the pitching tournament, each man will be allowed five shots. An official Intramural medal will be awarded to the winner of each of the two events. A team trophy will be given to the or ganization whose best four men rank highest in the two combined events. IM Tennis Matches Start Sunday, May 2 The intramural tennis tourna ment will get under way this week end with first round matches slated for Sunday, May 2. First and Second round matches will be completed Sunday. Pair ings will be posted today in the Coliseum. ' The championship fraternity team will receive a trophy, and medals will be awarded to the singles champion. Certificates will go to the four best players, and team and individual champions,' names will be emblazoned on the Coliseum lobby championship plaques. Organizations must have at least two men actually competing to receive participation points. All players must furnish their own rackets, and each Rjayer must furnish three new balls for the tournament.
