Husker Teams
Start Second
Week's Drills
Coach Potsy Clark's Cornhusker
gridders started into their second
week of spring practice Monday
taking the spotlight.
Several squads took their turn
right with scrimmage sessions
at the contact work. One offen
sive backfield was composed of
Darwin Salestrom in the signal
calling position, Ray Magsamen
and Gerald Ferguson at halves
and Frank Callopy at fullback.
On the defensive eleven were Bob
Reidy and John Andrews in the
line-backing spots, with Phil
Young, Bill Moomey and Kenny
Fischer working behind the line
backers.
Tony Blazine had his linemen
drilling, while passers Dick Hut
ton, Roy Churchill and Bob
Scoville warmed their passing
arms. Dutch Meyer and Jim My
ers worked on punting.
Sharpe's Men Work. .
Coach Tony Sharpe sent his
baseball candidates into their sec
ond week of outside work. Work
ing in the pitching position were
Jim Sharp and Big Jim Sandstedt.
Catchers were Willard Branson
and Dilford Blatchford.
The Husker diamond men also
took their turn at infield practice.
One lineup had Dick Schleiger at
first, Hobe Hmvs at second, Bob
Grogan at short and Bill Denker

Third in 'NCAA
Wrestle Meet
Two Nebraska wrestlers
dropped early matches in the
NCAA wrestling tournament at
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania last
week.
Heavyweight Mike DiBiase
dropped a pair of matchs Friday
night to Oklahoma A. & M.'s
Richard Hutton, defending champ
who retained his crown, and Bob
Maldegan of Michigan State, re
spectively. In the 125-pound division, Ne
braska's Bob Yambor dropped a
3-0 decision to Paul McDaniel,
also of Oklahoma A. & M.
Copple Reaches Semisv
Newt Copple reached the semi
finals in the 147.5-pound class by
pinning Walter Schallcross of
Rutgers and repeating with a pin
over Andrew Pychany of Indiana.
Navy's John Fletcher, however,
pinned Copple in the evening
bouts. Copple gained third place
in his weight class.
The Aggies from Oklahoma
won the team title with 33 points.
The Aggies copped two individual
titles in winning the tourney.
Hutton won the heavyweight di
vision and Jack St. Clair was
champion in the 160.5 pound
class. Nebraska finished with five
points to place 12th in the meet.

number of teams may be entered.
Newman Club
Captures Title
Intramural basketball drew to
a close last week when the New
man Club defeated I.F.T., 24-19,
to win the Inter-Denominational
championship.
Hamersky led the victors with
five buckets, and B. Costello hit
for six counters to take runner
up honors. Baumbalk finished
with four. Duling and Kreizinger
paced the losers with six points
each. The Newman Club led at
hrlf-time. 6-5. I.F.T. is the In
dependent champion.
YWCA comparative religious
group will meet Tuesday at 5:00
p. m. in the dining room of El
len Smith Hall. Rev. Phillip Shug
will speak on Unitarianism.

Revised Golf,
Tennis Slates
Revised nine-match golf and
tennis schedules have been re
leased by George (Posty) Clark,
University of Nebraska Athletic
Director.
The Big Seven conference
championships in both sports will
be in Lincoln May 21 and 22.
The varsity tennis ' squad will
start practice in the Coliseum
next week, according to Coach
Gene Leighton.
Two Lettermen
Coach Leighton will build his
team around two lettermen. Jack
Cady of Lincoln and Robert Sle
zak of San Francisco. The Corn
husker coach has asked anyone
interested in trying for the team
to see him.
The golf and tennis teams will
travel together and play the same
teams.

got under way last week in the
Coliseum pool with 11 contests
being played.
Twenty-seven teams are ent
ered in the five leagues, with
the Independent League having
seven members and the other
four having five entries.
Water basketball is being of
fered for the first time in intra
mural competition. Last year
water polo was played.
