The win cave Nebraska its
bt season's basketball record
since 1037. This year' cagers won
11 and lost 13. In 1937, Nebraska
won 13 and lost seven.
The victory was the fifth in
conference competition for the
Huskers, and finished in fifth
place in the Big Seven standings:

Huskers Finish Second

Iowa State s swimming squad lived up to advance no

Seven swimming championships. The Cyclones scored 80

Iowa State started the record breaking procession by
taking the 300-yard medley relay event in a time of 3:09.3,
bettering the old time by about eight seconds.

Marvin Giimn won the first
event for Nebraska by scoring a
close decision over Jim Dicker
son of Iowa State in the 50-yard
free style. Grimm's time was
:24.3.
Roger Wattx of Iowa State
broke the old 220-yard free-style
record when he swam that dis
tance in 2:16.2 in the preliminar
ies. Watts also broke the record
in the 440-yard freestyle in the
preliminaries, stroking that event
in a time of 5:04.
Sam Shiffler of Iowa State won
the diving with a 48-point mar
gin over second place Fig Flagg
of Nebraska. Flagg edged out his
teammate Roger Moore for sec
ond position. Dick Bell of Ne
braska took; fourth to give Ne
braska their biggest single event
total.
Closest Race.
In the closest race of the day,
Conrad King of Nebraska placed
third in the 200-yard breaststroke.
King was less than a foot behind
the winner, Howard Johnson, of
Iowa State. Johnson's time was
2:41.3. The 150-ya'rd backstroke
was a race between Crowder of
Oklahoma and Robison of I-State,
with Robison winning in a time
of 1:44 J. Crowder set a new rec
ord in the prelims when he swam
the event in 1:42.6.

Take Spotlight
Nebraska's intramural teams
will 'swing into action on new
fronts this month when the cur
rent basketball play-offs are com
pleted. Water basketball, a Jack Best
group 1 sport, and the all-university
boxing championships will
be two sports to take over the
Epotlight. Water basketball en
tries are due not later than Mon
day, March 8, at 5 p. m.
Most of the water basketball
games will be played from 5 to
6 p. m. daily. Occasional contests
will be scheduled at night. A
trophy will be awarded to the
championship fraternity team,
and intramural medals will be
given to winners of independent
leagues.
The all-university boxing
championships will be held March
16, 17 and 19. A team trdphy will
be awarded to the champions and
the second place winners. Intra
mural medals will be given to in
dividual champions and second
place winners, while certificates
will go to all third place winners.

Missouri University's Big Seven

team and three individual per
formers to the Illinois Tech Re
lays in Chicago March 13.
Madill Gartiser will compete in
the 70-yard high hurdles and the
70-yard low hurdles. Gartiser is
the Big Seven champion in the
GO-yaid low and high hurdles.
Harry Guth, conference 60-yard
dash king, is entered in the 70
yard dash, and Ed Quirk will bid
in the shotput event.

Finish Season
In 54-48 Win
Couch John Thompson's Ne
braska Nubbins finished their
cage season Saturday night in
the Coliseum by handing Western
Union College of LeMars, Iowa,
a 54-48 defeat.
Center Bob Allen led the Hus
ker reserves in the scoring de
partment with 15 points. Bill
Sailor and Jim Van Burg finished
second for the B quintet with
eight points each.
Sloan, Western Union guard.
and Hanson, center, led the Iowa
quintet's attack with 12 and 11
points, respectively.
The contest was close all the
way, with neither team able to
gain a comfortable margin. West
ern Union was leading at the in
termission 28-26.
