Nebraska University's Corn
husk ers, fresh from two cage vic
tories over Iowa State and Colo
rado, will travel to Manhattan,
Kas., Friday, to meet the league
leading Kansas State Wildcats.
The Wildcats dropped Iowi
State's Cyclones Tuesday night for
their seventh victory in confer
ence competition. They have lost
only two games in loop play.
Big Bus Whitehead returned to
action against the Colorado Buf
falo Wednesday night and
should be a big help when the
Huskers tangle with the Wildcats.
Dick Schleiger and Whitehead will
handle the pivot duties.
Coach Good's Cornhuskers will
play two more games next week.
Oklahoma and Kansas will meet
the Huskers in the Coliseum,
March 1 and March 6.

early this week.
Missouri and Iowa State suf
fered setbacks at the hands of
Colorado and Kansas State re
spectively and once more were
deadlocked for third place with
five wins and five losses apiece.
Nebraska's Comhuskers gained
sole possession of the fifth, spot
Wednesday night when they
dumped Colorado, 58-53 at Lin
coln. The Scarlet victory pushed
Kansas U. into- sixth place. The
Kansans remained 9 idle this
week in conference play.
Coach Frosty Cox's Colorado
Buffaloes split a pair of games
in conference activity this week.
The Buffs jarred Missouri, 56-4S,
Monday night but bowed to Ne
braska Wednesday.

Iowa State's defending cham
pions .will be favored to repeat
in the Big Seven Conference
swimming championships to be
held at the University of Ne
braska pool, March 5-6.
Coach Hollie Lepley of Ne
braska predicts the conference
record book for 25-yard pools will
be rewritten as all but two of
the top performers in 1947 will
return.
Bob Savage who aided Iowa
State to a new medley record
and Dick Draper, member of the
Nebraska record-breaking free
style team, are the only two top
performers who will be missing
this year.
Roger Watts, Iowa State's mid
dle distance ace, will lead the
Cyclones in their defense of the
title. Watts set three conference
records in 1947 with :52.9 in the
100, 2:13.3 in the 200 and 4:54.6
in the 440.

Doug Robison, record holder in
the 150-yard backstroke (1:43.6)
also swam backstroke on the
record-breaking 300-yard medley
relay team (3:05.2).
Marvin Grimm, conference
champion in the 60 and 100-yard
free style and record holder in
the 60 free (:29.1) anchored the
Cornhusker 400-yard free style
relay team in 1947. Other swim
mers were Jack Campbell, Per
ry Branch and Dick Draper.
Grimm placed fourth in the
50-yard free style and sixth in
the 100 in the 1947 National Col
legiate Athletic Association cham
pionships at Seattle.

For March 8
Spring football practice at the
University of Nebraska, will start
March 8, Coach Potsy Clark an
nounced Coach Clark is not yet sure
what date he will arrive in Lin
coln but "I'll be there in time for
the spring kickoff," he told Busi
ness Manager A. J. Lewandowski
in a telephone conversation.
Five of the lettermenof 1947
will be lost to the squad by grad
uation or completion of their
eligibility.

Nebraska University's freshmen
track team captured twin postal
meets this week from the Univer
sity of Missouri and University of
Colorado frosh by 55-49 and 69-34
scores.
Bill Mount ford took two firsts
in the mile and the half mile
against Colorado but had to be
content with second in the 440,
880 and mile runs against Mis
souri. Husker Leonard Kehl wos tops
against both teams in the pole
vault with a 13 feet 'i inch jump.
Other Nebraska winners were Ay
din in the two mile run, Elliott in
the high jump, Standsbury in the
broad jump and a tie. between
YeFtness and Ritter in the 60 yard
dash. In the shot put Nielson won
with a toss of 43 feet 2'i inches
lor the Husker frosh.
