THE DAILY NEBRASKAN
Men's Activity Points
honor:
Last night we tinally got a written list of recommendations
from the constitutions committee of the Student Council. We are
very pleased to find that these recommendations were not as drastic
as the adjectives used in the Council implied that they might be,
and so, since we can meet these requirements without changing
the nature of our organization, we will of course resubmit our
constitution to the Council.
We feel, however, that the adjectives first applied to us defi
nitely gave the wrong picture of our organization, and since this
idea may still remain in the minds of some of the student body,
we would like to present a true version. ,
Perhaps we can best explain what we stand for by quoting
Article I, Section 2, of our constitution. "Believing that education
is not only perparation for life, but life itself; and believing that
democratic principles should not only be learned, but also put into
practice in everyday life; and believing that democracy functions
best when all sides of an issue are equally aired; we have formed
this organization to give representation to those students of the
campus who have been hitherto unrepresented. Realizing also the
serious effect that discrimination of all types, such as that because
of wealth, creed, race, or color has on campus life, we shall make
the elimination of this discrimination one of our prime objectives."
If anyone has any more questions on our organization we cordially
invite the mto our first public meeting to be held the first week in
February.
THE PERSIANS
Benjamin M. Wall, President.
To the Editor:
I have a suggestion to make. Take the arguments surrounding
Phaedrus, the NSA, Gene Berman, the faction, and stick them in
some appropriate place besides The Daily Nebraskan. Atomic energy,
the Marshall plan, our relations with Russia and the coming na
tional elections are burning issues that deserve consideration by
your paper.
Is the editor, the Pub Board, the Board of Regents or the state
legislature banning mention of these things? If so, steps should be
taken to remove these shortsighted bans. A primary duty of the
university should be to prepare its students for citizenship, and
stifling discussions of national significance will not attain this
end. Who Phaedrus is will not -effect my taxes appreciably. But
whether or not President Truman is re-elected will.
The fact that Gene Berman just loves his new sister-in-law
and roast beef has no bearing on a Third World War. Adoption of
the Marshall pTan might very well prevent such a war.
The secret manipulations of the faction will hardly bring to a
halt to inflation. Election of an intelligent Congress might accom
plish this.

news that cculd and should fill your holes on the second page. And
if you should even feel so disposed, and can get the green light from
the "higher-ups," you might touch upon some important matters.
You might be awakened and learn that some students are inter
ested in problems of national and international purport.

Dear Editor:
As a matter of clarification, I would like to make the follow
ing comments.
The Letterip in Friday's Daily Nebraskan stated that the Veter
ans Organization sponsored the Veterans convocation last Tuesday
as "the proponents of the so called 'Operations Subsistences'." This
statement is NOT correct! As accurately stated in the news articles of
The Daily Nebraskan, a report was given on the National Confer
ence of Veteran Trainees. The Conference had no connection with
Operation Subsistence and if the writer of the erroneous Letterip
had been present at the convocation as he stated, he would have
understood that fact clearly.
The University Veterans' Organization is the only independent or
ganization on the campus exclusively for veterans, buch a fact
confirms that this organization is a good representative of the
student veterans.
The Uni-Vets did sponsor the Veterans Convocation last Tues
day. It was to present the report of the National Conference of Vet
eran trainees. The convocation was not sponsored by Operation
Subsistence. Operation Subsistence did not sponsor the National
Conference of Veteran Trainees.
The Uni-Vets have never sponsored any program the least bit
"shady" and will not do so in the future. Our records are open
for inspection at any time and our activities are undertaken only
with a plurality of the membership present at the meetings
