MORTAR BOARD BALL DEC. 12TH 1230 O St. Novaes to Play Piano Recital Here Thursday BY SAM WARREN. The standing complaint of Mid west musical audiences that guest artists never perform the same "heavy" programs here that they give in New York will be in valid when pianist Guiomar No vaes appears in Lincoln Thurs day for the student and towns folk audience of the Lincoln Fine Art series. Bach, Mozart. Engaged for the series because of her successful reception be fore a Lincoln audience last year, Madame Novaes will play at Lin coln high school auditorium the same program which she pre sented in Town Hall Nov. 23. Featuring Schumann's extended "Carnaval Piano," the pro gram consists of Bach, Mozart and Ch'opin numbers. A native Brazilian (like soprano Bidu Sayao who sang in recital here last week), Madame Novaes is one of those artists whose careers date back to early child hood. Her feats as a prodigy led her government to endow her studjes at the Paris Conserva tory. American Debut. She was still a young girl when she startled Europe with her pianistic fireworks, so that she was already a seasoned artist when she made her American debut, a debut which critics still remember fondly. Members of the university school of music faculty recalled her Lincoln re cital of some 15 years ago with the same enthusiasm that they accorded her last year's appear ance. Students may purchase tickets, at prices ranging from $1.20 to $3.60 at Walt's music store. Sargent Bush where Dale Mesner will lead the discussion of the historicity of Christ, and to the Baptist Student House where Lynwood Parker will head the discussion of J. Parnell Thomas' much publicized committee now investigating Communism in Hollywood. An added note of interest to the first discussion will be the account of recent scientific re search which claims to have proved that Jupiter and Saturn came close enough together, more than 1900 years ago, to have created the illusion of the "Ktnr of Bethlehem." The constitution ality of Congress' being able to subpoena citizens to ask them to declare their political beliefs will be the core of the Social Action commission's discussion.
