PAGE 4 Counseling Service Aids Students in Adjustments BY FRANK JACOBS. All those disgusted with their present courses who tore that down-slip into tiny bits scream ing "I can't get this stuff I must be in the wrong curriculum!" can calm down, once they know that the university's testing and coun seling service can help them. This counseling service Is aimed to help students with their prob lems of vocational choice, educa tional planning, and personnel and social addjustment. Thru the Junior Division, the University has provided these services since 1940. At first, the chief emphasis was the counseling of freshman, but during the past six years the services have come to the attention of upper-classmen, and now all students take advantage of it. The same is true of graduate students and high school seniors. Actually, nearly 2,000 students come to the doors of the Junior Division office yearly. For the last three years, nearly 50 percent of the people who took these tests were veterans, who learned in the service and else where the importance of such guidance. The different tests of the service provide various purposes. There are tests on aptitude, personality adjustment, and academic achieve ment. Students may come to the Jun ior Division offices in the base ment of University hall anytime or these tests. No appointment is WATCH SALE! The staff is made up of three counselors and three psychome trists, or examiners, some of whom are available at anytime, except Saturday afternoon. Dean of the Junior Division is N. A. Bengtson, while Dr. W. R. Bailer is Assistant Dean. K. F. MacCormack is Guidance Con sultant. University Hall is one of two lo cations for the testing and counsel ing. Another branch is located in hte Plant Industry building at the College of Agriculture, where tests may be taken any Monday or Tuesday. In many colleges such services are paid for by students at the rates of $15.00 and up; but at this university there is no charge, the tests being covered by the general student fees paid at the time of registration. Beginning Dance Classes To End Series With Parly The beginning dance class under Miss Dona McCandless will close its series of seven lessons with a party Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Union ballroom. Technicolor movie "Junior Prom," illustrating dance eti quette, will be shown, and there will be juke box music for danc ing. Refreshments will be served. Vets, dinner dance in the Student Union Fri day evening. Dr. Bedell, the retiring faculty advisor gave a short talk on, "The Uni. Vets, and World Peace." "The main hope of de mocracy is to be found in the World war II veterans on this campus and on the campuses of other great colleges," said Mr. Bedell. Then he went on to say that the student veteran has the responsibility not only to learn what is taught in college but to paricipate in organizations such as the Uni. Vets.
