DeBolt's Nubbins Set
Ft. Riley Battle Friday
BY LEE IIARRIS.
The University of Nebraska's B team will wade into
the Ft. Riley Centaurs Friday at Memorial stadium at 3:00
with the hopes of preserving their perfect record held over
from last year and the one game played this year.
The Nubbins knocked off the Ft. Riley boys in an,
earlier contest this year by a 12-7 count in a game played
in Kansas,
In their initial game of the sea-
eon the ITusker B squad was led
by little Russ Hale, 141 pound
quarterback, who ran and passed
the Nebraskans to an Inspiring
win over the big soldier craw.
The centaurs will bring some of
Army's outstanding war-time
football greats with them when
they make their trip to Lincoln
this Friday. Leading the list is
He'rshel 'Ug Fusion, West Point's
240 pound center .for three years,
who was pteked on the second
Ail-American team in 1945.
Hefty Tackles
Another bright spot in the Cen
taur line is 198-pound tackle Shel
ton Biles who has to his credit
three years of play at the Point
and also an honorable mention on
the All-American football selec
tion of 1946.
The Ft. Riley offensive punch
comes in the form of William
Woo' West, 190-pound ex-West
Pofnt fullback. West lettered one
year at Dartmouth before enter
ing the academy at West Point.
He played on the Eastern Ail-Star
eleven in 1947 and was voted the
most valuable player on the team.
He is the man Coach Ray DeBolt's
charges will have to watch out for
Friday.
Adding to the Centaur wealth of
material is Harold Tavzel, two
year letter man at West Point
during the war who now teams
with Biles to hold down the reg
ular tackle position for Ft. Riley.
Tavzel is another heavyweight
scalfng in at 203.
As for Ray DeBolt's Nubbins
they have been scrimmaging with
the freshman team this week and
should be ready to roll Friday
afternoon.
Leading the Nubbins will be
Harry Maginnis who teamed with
Raymond Magsamen to spark the
Husker ground offense in the lone
game played three weeks ago. In
that single contest the fullbacking
chores of able Dean DaMoude
stood out for the Huskers as his
line bucking kept the Soldiers
constantly on the back tract.

Scrimmage;
Captain Named
Nebraska's Cornhuskers, after a
day of rest and a day of light

assembled two varsity units for a
20-minute scrimmage.
Quarterback Dick Thompson,

Sooners, face a high flying
Missouri Tiger aggregation Satur
day at Columbia.
While both of End Coach Ray
Prochaska's wingmen were out of
action Wednesday, Ed Nyden and
Alex Cochrane, a pair of veteran
performers, worked with the num
ber one unit. Gene Wilkins was
back in his regular guard spot
ahead of the injured Jacupke.
Same Starters.
The remainder of the first unit
was the same group that opened
against the Jayhawks Saturday.
That includes: Carl Samuelson
and Charley Toogood at the

Tom Novak at center.
Dick Thompson guided from the
quarterback slot, Cletus Fischer
