case the time arranged is not con
venient, contact Jane McArthur,
managing editor, at least one day
before, so other arrangements can
be made.
Disc-cussion

And Jean Millan
Usually when people think of
jazz they have visions of a "hot"
trumpet or a mellow saxophone,
therefore slighting the good jazz
vocalists who are few and far
between. The vocalists, in ques
tion, definitely carry top honors
in jazz because of their original
personalities that put over a song.
To show you what we mean we
have done some research this
week on a few from the old
school.
Julia Lee, sultry singer who
docs an all-night stand in some
Kansas City hole-in-the-wall, has
recently taken time out to make
a recording with top musicians,
including Red Callender, Bobby
Sherwood and Red Norvo. "I Was
Wron;" and "Snatch and Grab
It," the platter just referred to, is
soon to be at your local music
stores.
And speaking of Julia Lee, she's
one ;.l wc think might go places
in a big way if she could ever
I e lured away from her little
K.i lis: s City bistro. Any of you
v. ho have heard some of her
culicr stuff "Ya flotta Gimme
What. I, a Got," "Kansas City
Mamma," etc. will probably
a 'ree. I it it . sorry to say, the Kan
sas City ManuiKi seems to be per
fectly happy ;,t home.
