Yellow, Green Print Add
Color to '47 Cornhusker
BY NORM LEGER.
(Nrwa Milor)
Bold colors of yellow and green
make the 1947 Cornhusker as col
orful as a newly painted circus
calliope. And it's the first year
book since 1943 to have pictures
with something more than black
and white treatment, according to
Merrcll Shutt Grant, the woman
who is in the best position to take
any orchids for the soon-to-be-released
yearbook.
Editor Grant kindly submitted
a pre-release Cornhusker to the
Daily Nebraskan to be reviewed,
for the benefit of readers who are
wondering what they will get for
their $5.50.
Ivory Cover.
Upon the ivory leather cover is
a colored photograph of a group
of students which represents a
cross section of the entire student
body. The attractive Tassel
smack-dab in the middle is popu
lar Grade Smith. i
The book is dedicated "To
Youth" which should take in the
great majority of yearbook pur
chasers. Following the dedication
comes several pages of campus
shots which show a few of the
more picturesque buildings Sosh,
the library, Home Ec and stu
dents Suzanne Hucll, Rosalie
Skid more, Don Andrews, Arthur
Meyers and others.
Chancellor's Portrait.
In Book One, Administration,
there is an excellent photo-portrait
of the Chancellor, something
to be cherished by every yearbook
owner. Deans, profs, and colleges
fill out this section.
Book 2, classes, points to Bill
Thornburg, Ellie Knoll and Helen
Laird as possibly the three most
prominent seniors, what with
sizeable photos and signatures.
An interestingly-posed portrait of
Dake Novotny heads the junior
section, and sophomores and frosh
make up the remainder of the sec
tion. An introductory photo to book
3, Government, finds lefty Bob
Orr signing a voting sheet,' with
M. A. Cawood Cochran waiting
her turn. The Women, book 4,
touches upon all women's activ
ities from Orchesis to Coed Fol
lies. Being in this particular sec
tion, .the pictures of John Kirsch,
Bill Larson and John Rogers won't
slip the eye.
The eight beauty queens and
eligble bachelors have a section
of their own called "Royalty."
Book 5, Publications, proves that
Cornhusker, Daily Nebraskan,
Awgwan, Student Directory, Ne
braska Blue Print and Cornhus
ker Countryman workers could
smile wider for the cameraman
than any other groups. Book 6:
The Arts, theatre, music and art,
Book 7. Playing, reviews the
year's big parties and tosses in a
picture of the 1946 May Queen,
Les Glofelty, to boot. Book 8,
Men, cuts out a healthy chunk of
the total number of pages with or
ganizations, athletics, and the
military.
Les Art.
Under houses, Book 9, can be
found the formal and informal
shots of all students who reside in
organized hocuses, and, in addition,
a "strictly Informal" pic reveals
the shapely legs of the dancers in
the ATO Kosmet Klub review
skit.
Book 10 is organizations, hon-
oraries and otherwise. Betty R.
Hubka makes with the big smile
as one of the nine people listed
under "Who's Who Scholastic-ally."
