Four Events Draw Attention
As Big Six Carnival Nears
Four features of the Big Six
track and field championships
here Friday and Saturday will be
the half-mile, mile, discus and
high jump, according to Corn
husker Coach Ed Weir.
Bobby Ginn, Nebraska's Indoor
champ;on in both the mile and
half-mile, will face a stout field
in his pet event, the mile. Bobby
has a mark of 4:18.6 this season.
Bob Bosworth, University of
Missouri, has been timed in 4:21.1
and Hal Moore of the University
or Kansas in 4:22.
Mel Sheehan of Missouri,
wheeled the discus 163 feet 9i
inches in a dual meet against the
University of Kansas last week
end. This betters the mark set
by Edsel Wibbels of Nebraska in
1940 when he set a mark of 160
feet 5'i inches.
880 Repeat
The half-mile likely will be a
repeat of the great race staged
by Harold Kopf of Nebraska and
Richard Killough of Missouri.
These two staged a whale of a
stride-matching back stretch
drive, Kopf finally winning in a
photo-finish.
Ginn, who will be making his
farewell tour of the Scarlet cin
ders, cannot be counted out of
this race. Bobby has doubled the
half and mile as late as the last
indoor meet at Kansas City.
It will be a rough test for the
Madison mite as the mile field
will force him to go his best.
The top field of high jumpers
in many seasons will be as
sembled for this event and a new
record is likely.
High Jump Threats.
r
Ik.,
The co-holders of the present
mark Dwayne Feeken of Iowa
State and Tom Scofield, Kansas,
at 6 feet 4 are both entered
Each was hampered by injuries
earlier in the season.
Scofield indicated he has re
covered by tying for the Drake
relays high jump championship
Monte Kinder, University of
Nebraska, won the Texas relays
with a 6 foot 5 inch leap. His
kangaroo efforts have been
hampered lately by a bruise and
callous on his take-off foot. It
was lanced after the Missouri
. Nebraska dual and his foot is
feeling much better .which is re
flected in his trials this week
Bill Lambeth, a University of
Oklahoma freshman, also is a
contender. He has done 6 feet 4.
Cooper Rusty
Don Cooper, Nebraska pole
vaulter, has been nursing what
was first diagnosed as appendi
citis but later was ruled a stom
ach disorder. He has not worked
out for more than a week.
Cooper's best mark is 13 feet
9 inches. The record is held by
Harold Hunt, Nebraska, at 14
feet 5-8 inches, set in 1940.

Bobby Ginn and the loop outdoor
mile title Saturday at the nine
teenth annual league thin clad
conclave in Lincoln, he will be
closing only his second season of
competitive track. In that short
span he has staked out a reputa
tion as one of the circuit's top
distance hands.
His first effort in Kansas silks
was first place in the loop cross
country show at Norman in
1945. He followed this by a
sixth place finish in the NCAA
harrier trials.
Sickness again hampered the
lean harrier last autumn knock
ing him out of most of the cross
country season. But he shifted into
high at the loop indoor trials again
pushing Ginn all the way before
losing a lead on the last lap as
the tiny Cornhusker rambled to a
new record of 4:19.7.
