VETS NEWS A discussion of the domestic affairs platform to be uspd at the national convention of AVC at Milwaukee, June 19 to 23, will be conducted by the university chap ter of the American Veterans Committee tonight at 7:15 in room 316 of the Union. The platform was drawn up by the national domestic affairs com mittee of AVC which is headed by Robert Nathan, noted national economist. Highlights of the platform In clude support for measures by government, business and labor to insure full employment, fair employment practices, increased minimum wage laws, federal un employment compensation, strong labor unions with guaranteed col lective bargaining rights and a closed shop. Federal Aid to Education. The platform advocates In creased salaries for teachers, and federal aid to states on basis of "need." It backs increased old age and unemployment insurance based on a pay-as-you-go basis. In the realm of taxation it asks for an equitable tax policy that gives relief first to tax payers in the lower brackets. Services Unification. The pre-convention p 1 a t f orm P asks for a unified armed force, voluntary enlistment without compulsory military training, and investigation of the court-martial system. Unaffiliated Board Plans May Picnic At a meeting of the Unaffiliated Students .Association Council Thursday evening, plans were completed for the annual USA picnic to be held at Antelope park May 10. Beginning at 4 p. m. the pro gram will include team games, re lays, and other activities prepared Dy a committee from organized houses in cooperation with the Lincoln recreation office. The 6 p. m. picnic supper will De ionowed by dancing in the pa vilion at 8 p. m.
