Thursday, March 20, 1947 THE DAILY NEBRASKAN Page 5 Personally Speaking After reading yesterday's Let ifrin. vou are. of course, expect ing the Daily Nebraskan to rise to defend itself. And yesterday morning we saw one of the news editors havlnff her sav tvDewnt er carriage moving swiftly back and forth explaining why tne Daily is as it is. To avoid repetition we won't take up the tight here, other than to point out that it is much easier to sit back and play critic than it is to come down to the Daily Nebraskan office and do something towards improving the newspaper an obvious truth, that, but one which too many people disregard. But then, someone said that what the world needs is more critics. Who was it? Ah yes, another critic. He should come to Ne braska. Furthermore, about this business, leaving: anonymous, derisive "suggestions for Im provement" notes on the managing- editor's desk accomplishes little, other than to stir the wrath of staff members. In such matters, it does take more than a pencil to sign one's name, doesn't it? We were surprised to hear that not a few students were lacking in enthusiasm for the Junior Senior prom Saturday night. Since it's the first really big dance we've had since last December, we sup posed that everyone would be looking to it with some anticipa tion. What we heard came to us a few days ago. Since that time the Junior and Senior class presidents have announced a joint class meeting to elect a prom queen, and the Corn Cob pledges have been given tickets to sell. What with the usual curiosity re garding who will be queen and with typical Cob pledge sales manship to help earn more points, the Junior-Senior prom should be well attended. Whether or not you have any queen-curiosity or Cob-salesmanship-resistance, you still should come, just for the ,yes, just for the fun of it. A good band, a big dance floor, and the best way to see who is with whom will be available to you for a reasonable price as com pared to the price of tickets for previous dances. What have you got to lose? Get on that phone, and find out how many offers Mabel has turned down just so that she could go with you! ("I'll bet you tell that to all the boys, but it sure sounds good to me!" Tin pan alley, take it away . . .) Weight System Eases Theater Scene Changes The University Theater's pro duction of "Macbeth" which opens next Wednesday will reveal the advantages brought by the re cently installed counter-weight system which facilitates fast and smooth changes of scenery. The play is divided into seven teen scenes and will last approxi mately two hours, including a ten minute intermission. By using a unit setting for the background with separate platforms and steps curtained off, the action is con tinuous thruout the play, despite the number of scenes. Another recent installation in the Temple theater will be evi denced in "Macbeth." A new sound system will provide a mu sical background for many of the scenes and speeches which will serve to heighten the dramatic ef fect. Ticket sales for "Macbeth" open Monday at 12:30 noon in the box office of the Temple theater, and because of an expected large de mand for tickets all students are urged to make their reservations Monday afternoon, according to Dallas Williams, University thea ter dierctor. Mr. Williams is di recting "MacBeth." WHY pay $45 for milt? 2 veteran's pre war lulta with 2 pr. trousers. Brown, green, 36, $20-25, After nix 3-5345. J.
