The toal was not enough, for the Iowans took a 56-54 decision from Nebraska Monday at the coliseum. Michalske Due To Give Decision On UN Job Soon Former Iowa State head football coach, Mike Michalske, who was in Lincoln Monday to confer with Husker officials on the possibility of taking the UN line coach job, has told Nebraska heads that he will announce his decision within 48 hours. Strict adherance to this sche dule means that Mike will release his decision at approximately noon today. Courtesy Lincoln Journal By George Miller Gathering the remains of the Nebraska basketball hopes: Some of the best ball handling of the season was provided by Scarleteers Claude Retherford and Joe Brown during the Iowa State contest. The French Lick flyer in particular brought back memo ries of Goose Ttaum and the Lincoln Wings with his one-hand maneuvering of the leather. Leo Schneider, one of the many Iowa State substitutes who did not see action, was a member of the Nebraska starting; lineup last sea son, holding: down the center post. Big Leo was a member of the navy unit, but returned to Ames after leaving- the service. Schnieder's older brother, Carrol. won all Big Six honors as a Cyclone eager several seasons ago. The Huskers defeat was some thing rare in Big Six circles this season, for it marked the fourth time that a loop team had been beaten on its home floor in a conference game. Previously Ne braska had whipped Kansas and Oklahoma at home, while the Cyclones had failed to win in three appearances away from the Ames court. Coach Good's outfit will make its final swing this weekend, play ing at Kansas Saturday and mov ing on to Norman for a Monday engagement with the torrid Okla homa Sooners. The OU quintet has not been beaten in loop play since Nebraska uncorked an up set on January 6. Recent basketball results hae left the Big Six and Missouri Val ley cage situations in such confu sion that the task of determining the district five representative for the NCAA tourney may be difficult. At this stage of the season it seems tht the St Louis Billikens are the logical choice. Big Six teams have failed to trip the Ok lahoma Aggies, but a trio of Missouri Valley foes have clouted the Stillwater Cowboys. Of the three, St. Louis, Drake and Creighton, only the Bills have the overall record necessary for con sideration. The new glass bankboards at the coliseum weathered a severe pounding Monday, and are now reday for high school tournament treatment. Trior to the Nebraska Iowa State tilt, eight teams had fired away at the transparent tar gets. Coach Al Zikmund's Lincoln Teachers opened the bombard ment during the afternoon, play ing a reserve game and a first team contest agaist Lewiston. Then the Nubbins took over the floor, defeating Luther and Con cordia in prelims to the UN en counter. . High scorers were the rule rather than the exception during basketball action Monday. In the Concordia-Nubbins battle Neil Hafemeister showed early arrivals some fancy marksmanship as he potted 24 points for the Seward team in its unsuccessful bid against the Nubbins. 6 Free Social Dancing Classes For Beginners Donna McCandless, Instructor 7:30 P.
