Plans Dance
On March 15
An orchestra dance free to stu
dents holding membership cards
in the university's Veterans' Or
ganization for the spring term
will held in the Union ballroom

social chairman..
Hob McNannay, "Univct" presi
dent for the spring term, reported
that the first meeting for mem
bers will be held Wednesday,
Feb. 12, at 7:30 p. in. The
meeting will be highlighted by a
rcort from the Educational
Facilities committee now lobby
ing in the state legislature for
an adequate budget for the uni
versity. According to Don Baker, di
rector of EFC, the budget recom
mended by Governor V'al Peter
son, now in the hands of the
budget committee headed by Sen
ator Callan, has no provision for
new buildings or for extensive
improvement of present build
ings. Baker added that the budget
will be in the hands of the com
mittee until some time in March
when it will move to the floor
of the legislature for final con
sideration. "The tentative budget
is subject to much needed re
vision and is being given exten
sive study by the Kr'C," he added.
Carol Krey Tells
Kernels' History
At Dinner-Meeting
Following a dinner meeting
Monday, the Kernels, social or
ganization for unaffiliated women,
entertained prospective new mem
bers at a party in the Union.
Carol Krey, president of the
group, told tiie guests the history
of the club. Clco Schmoldt spoke
on present activities, and I-ois
Gobar talked of the future plans
of the club. Following refresh
ments, guests and members ad
journed to the game room for
biid;:e.
Now officers of the Kernels for
the second semester are Carol
Krey, president, and Marjoric
Marshall, vice-president. The new
officers emphasized that all un
affiliated girls at the university
arc eligible for membership in
the group. Anyone interested in
becoming a member of the Ker
nels has been asked to contact
one of the officers or a member
of the group.

Navy To Allow
Sailors In V-6
Paid Vacations
The U. S. Naval Reserve of Lin
coln has announced that nil mem
bers of the V-6 Inactive reserve
are eligible for "a two weeks va
cation this summer with pay" by
requesting a cruise on one of the
navy ships going to the Canal
Zone, Cuba, San Juan, Bermuda
and other ports in the Carribbean
area.
Those taking the cruises will re
ceive full pay and allowances at
the rate at which they were dis
charged, transportation to and
from the port of embarkation and
clothing for the cruise.
Ex-navy men and veterans from
other branches of the armed forces
may enroll in the navy reserve
and become eligible for these
cruises. Enlistments in the naval
reserve are still being accepted at
the Naval Reserve office in the
Tost Office building. Ex-navy and
coast guard veterans may enroll
at their highest rating held at time
of discharge.
It should be remembered that
by joining the navy's inactive re
serve none of the benefits as a
veteran are lost, and the reserve
may not be called to duty unless
our national security is threatened.
The navy feels that the best
and most expedient way to insure
our national security is by build
ing a strong reserve. These
cruises represent an effort to

Activates Society
Croup on Campus
Tsi Chi, national honorary psy
chology society, has been reacti
vated under the sponsorship of
William J. Arnold, faculty advisor.
At the January meeting Shirley
Compton was elected president.
Other officers are Colleen Kahoa,
vice-president; Joyce Neumann,
secretary; and Anne Rcinhard,
treasurer.
The following members have

Films to Highlight
Engineers' Meet
The- student chapter of the
American Society of Civil En
gineers will be host to the Ne
braska graduate section of the
society in its first regular meet
ing of the semester, Thursday
evening at 7;15 in room 315 of
the Union.
Highlighting the meeting will be
two sound films, "Boulder Dam,"
and "Wealth of the Andes." The
latter film shows the difficulties
confronted in the construction of
the Central Railway of Peru thru
the rugged Andes.
All civil engineering students
above freshman standing may at
tend the meeting.

Federalists Preparing
For Convention Sunday
Student Federalists will hold a
meeting Thursday nt 7 p. m in
the Faculty lounge of the Union
