V iWe'dnes'day, March 20, 1946 Bernie Lists Four Teams; Moore Ready , Coach Bernie Masterson laid the groundwork for scrimmage plans, as he named four tentative squads from the ranks of Nebraska spring football candidates. Moore Reports. The backfield picture received a bit more of the rose-hued tone with the appearance of Jerry Moore, crashing Walthill fullback, who had previously said he would not compete. Moore was one of the most savage plunging backs in the Big Six at the close of the 1945 season, and his presence as sures Masterson of a reliable man when one or two yards are need ed thru the center of the line. Named on the tentative No. 1 squad are Jim Fricke, Bayard, and Ed Nyden, Lincoln,' at ends; Carl Samuelson, Grand Island, and Gordon Hall, Lincoln, tackles; Fred Lorenz, Lincoln, and Ed Schwartzkopfv, Lincoln, guards; Bob Costello, Lincoln, center; Fred Metheny, Lincoln, quarterback; Dick Hutton, Auburn, and Marvin Athey, Wauneta, halfbacks, and Bill Hewitt, David City, fullback. Six Lettermen. Six of the first eleven listed are lettermen, but only Costello and Lorenz were 'regulars last year. Other lettermen on the present No. 1 group are Nyden, Metheny, Athey and Schwartzkopf. The No. 2 unit listed Bob Schlei ger, Omaha, and Bob Korte, Fair bury, at ends; Edgar Thompson, Lincoln, and John Sedlacek, Sew ard, tackles; Joe Lukas, Omaha, and Dick Goeglin, Lincoln, guards; Jim Taylor, Garden City, Kas.. center; Dick Thompson, Lincoln, quarterback; Bob Lipps, Lincoln, and Harold Hungerford, Hershey, halfbacks, and Ray Boehmer, Lin coln, fullback, Franklin Christensen, Fremont, and Roy Nyden, Beatrice, are ends on the No. 3 group; Bob Tegt, Fre- mont, and Francis Leik, Hastings, tackles; Wilburn Borwn, Auburn, and George Anderson, Ogallala, guards; Ed Murphy, North Platte, center; Carl Dilldine, Falls City quarterback; Alex Fink, Lincoln, and Bill Vlcek, Wahoo, halfbacks; and Dick Skog, Omaha, fullback. Runnning with the fourth team were Francis Mandula, Youngs town, O., and Dick Page, Wy more; Eugene Simm, Nebraska City, and Mila Wilhelms, Au burn, tackles; Bill Rolfsmeyer and Bill Crawford, both of Lincoln, guards; Lou Howard, Long Island, N. Y., center; Neil McCluhan, Winnebago, quarterback; Bud Mockelstrom, Omaha, and Chick tory, Lincoln, halfbacks, and Dale Wismer, Lincoln, fullback. Lipps was a guard on last year's Nebraska team, but has been shifted to a right halfback spot this spring. Men's PE Club To Meet Tonight The Men's Physical Education club, which was to have met last week, was forced to postpone its initial meeting, and will meet this Wednesday night, March 20 at 7:30 in the N club room at the coliseum. At the meeting Wednesday night, new officers will be elected, and plans discussed for the com ing year, as well as for this spring, and summer school. The Fiji's two tree-topping cag ers, Bob and Dick Schleiger, reached up high and often to dump in nine points apiece. Whitehead's matching nine points kept Sig Chi's In the game how ever, and after trailing, 8-13, at the half, they stayed with the winners basket for basket through all of the lasttwo quarters. The Fijis, after early season de feats, picked up the Schleiger brothers as second semester en rollees, and have had things more or1 less their own way on the hardwoods ever since. Now they face the 520 Club, independent champion, and the Demolition Boys, navy champs, in around robin tourney starting tonight, to determine an all -university champion. Grey-White Beige-White THE NEBRASKAN Triangular Meet Added To Schedule The University of Nebraska track schedule has been enlarged with the addition of a triangular outdoor meet slated for May 4 at Ames, Iowa, and involving Ne braska, Iowa State and Minnesota. This date leaves only the May 11 spot empty on the Ilusker out door campaign. During that week end the state high school track and field championships will be held at the Memorial Stadium oval. Coach Ed Weir's men have been working on the Memorial stadium cinder track when the weather permits and a number of new prospects have turned out for the squad. Highlighting the coeds activities this week are the WAA elections tonight. Posted on the Grant Me morial bulletin board are the names of voters eligible to ballot. Also listed there are the bowling practice hours for the forthcom ing tournament, the days sched uled being Monday, March 18 thru Friday, March 22.
