Don Barry and Mulvaney
Pace UN Scoring Spree
By George Miller.
With rangy Don Barry and
stringbean Chuck Mulvaney lead
ing the way, Nebraska chalked
up a 52 to 29 victory over the
University of South Dakota Tues
day night on the coliseum court
as the Huskers showed their wares
for the first time before a home
crowd.
The contest was a ragged ex
hibition by both sides, for bad
passes and numerous fouls marred
the play.
After starling slowly, the Husk
ers found their basket eyes in the
second half and pulled away from
the smaller Coyotes, who were
badly outplayed around both
baskets.
Barry marked up a total of 16
points, and Mulvaney called it
quits after potting ten markers
for the Huskers. Joe Brown,
N.R.O.T.C. member from Akron,
O., was close behind with nine
counters.
Game Capl. Fred Hecox started
the scoring by sinking a pair of
free throws, but from then on the
score was knotted until the Husk
ers opened a narrow lead with
two minutes left in the first half,
At the end of the half the score
stood 21 to 15 in favor of Ne
braska.
Same Five Starts.
Coach Pop Klein opened the
second half with the same com
bination that ended the first canto,
and Barry, Cook, Story, Robin
son and Mulvaney performed in
firewagon style for a few minutes
and put the Scarlet out in front
to stay.
Thruout the second half the So
daks' attack was completely
stifled, and they managed to score
only 14 points. Eight of these tal
lies came on free throws, as Husk
er second and third stringers took
the floor.
Bob Korte, former Fairbury
ace, showed to pood advantage
when he entered the same mid
way in the second half, while Jim
Sandstedt steadied the Nebraska

Scorekeepers had a headache,
for both coaches gave a lot of
men a chance to perform. Four
teen Huskevs participated in the
fun, and Sodak Coach Hube Hoy
sent a like number into the fray.
Next action for the Nebraska
squad will come this week end at
the four-team tournament in Kan
sas City. The Huskers will meet
Missouri Friday night as a co
feature with the Kansas U.-Kan-
sas State battle. Winners will play
Saturday to decide the champion,
while losers will meet in a conso
lation encounter. From Kansas
City, the Scarlet will keep right
on traveling, going to Iowa City
Monday night to meet the highly
rated Iowa Hawkeyes.
