Starting off university basket
ball, Nebraska and Lincoln Air
Base quintets take to the court
floor Saturday night against the
University of Iowa and Fort Riley,
respectively. The Husker and
Hawkeye encounter will be the!
curtain raiser beginning at 7:15.
The new starting time for the
university games will require the
headlining Wings-Centaur tussle
to start at 8:30. Reason for the
change in starting times is that
the Wings have been the main
drawing card in court displays

the Wings event. However, none

games will be uninteresting.
Most of the Husker players are
inexperienced in college play

Phi Gams Cop
Intramural
Handball Title
Phi Gamma Delta copped intra
murals honors, topping Beta
Theta Pi in the finals of the
handball competition. Altho com
petitors were few, the Phi Gam's
showed enough strength to be un
disputed champions.
Semi-finals in the table tennis
competition resulted in finding
Alpha Tau Omega pitted against
the Beta Theta Pi team in the
finals. The ATO's dropped the
Xi Psi Phi team and the Betas
decisively dumped Zeta Beta Tau,
three matches out of five. The re
suits in this match must be turned
into Gordon Ehlers by Dec. 19,
Several teams have turned in
their basketball entries. Other
teams that desire to enter in
basketball competition must have
their entry turned in not later
than Dec. 19. No teams will be
included in the schedule if en
tered after then. Games will be
gin with the resumption of school
after Christmas vacation.
Fraternities haven't shown ex
pected interest in the intramural
contest to date. All should re
member that the team with the
most earned points wins the Jack
Best trophy. Fifty points are
garnered, at least, regardless
whether winning or losing. If
competition is entered, practice
beforehand develops a team up to
intramural standards. The intra
mural schedule will include prac
tically all sports. If any one house
desires a certain sport, get in
touch with Gordon Ehlers as soon
as possible.
Former Teacher
Receives Position
In Washington
Mrs. Clarence McLaughlin, the
former Dorothy Zimmerman tfm
graduate and member
ical education staff until two
ago, was appointed assist
ant chief of the National Amer
ican Red Cross recreation unit in
Washington, D. C. headquarters
according to Mabel Lee, chair
man of the university department
wf physical education for women.
Her duties will consist of inter
viewing all returning club person

two years in England, where she
was assistant director of the
American service club in London.
She will take over her new as

Iowa State
Drops Tilt
To 'Hawks
Iowa Seahawks took their
fourth straight victory of the sea
son Wednesday night as they
dropped their highly 'rated Big
Six opponents, the Iowa State
Cyclones. The Seahawks took the
Iowa Staters by a 49-39 score in
the Iowa City tussle.
The Iowa State road squad in
eluded starters Jim Myers, Orlyn
Feuerbach, Bill Mailey, Bob
Petersen and Bill Block. Also
making the trip are Ted Cham
berlain, Men Kleen, Sam Deal,
Gene Phelps, John Pflum, Dana
Omer and Student Manager Don
Jensen.
coach Menze used the same
starting lineup against the Sea
hawks that started against Min
nesota last week. That combina
tion paved the way for a 42-41
victory over the Gophers.
The Seahawks, already winenr
over Bunker Hill Navy, Ottumwa
Naval Base and the Minnesota
Gophers, pushed to make it a
fourth straight win. They are a
fast, rangy outfit, with consider
ably more experience back of
them than the Cyclones.
aLst year the Cyclones handed
Pre-Flight one of its three de
feats in a 21 -game schedule, win
ning on the Ames court 31 to 29.
Later in the season the Seahawks
retaliated by defeating the Iowa
Staters 33 to 27 at Iowa City.
