Both Nebraska and ISC will be
striving to enter the win column
again after a losing weekend.
Soundly thumped by Iowa, the
Scarlet will be seekincr to arlH
another conference victory to

Tigers. The Cyclones, tabbed in
pre-season dope as the team to
beat for Big Six honors, were
dumped at Ames last Saturday,
12-7, by Oklahoma. Also marring
me ia record is a Zl-Zl tie with
Missouri.
Pre-rame rnessin? Install th
Cyclones as decided favorites in
Saturday's contest. The Cyclone
club packs plenty of experience,
with veterans at nearly all nosts.
Meredith Warner, the conference's
leading scorer, and Chuck Wright,
UN letter winner in 42 and all
conference guard as a naval
trainee Cyclone last year, lead the
Iowa club.
Realizing full well that his
charges will once again be play
ing the all too familiar role of
underdogs, Husker coach A. J.
Lewandowski was busy Monday
and Juesday polishing rough
spots revealed in Saturday's loss
to Iowa.
Biggest headache is at right
half, with , neither starter Chick
Knight nor number one replace
ment Dick Lamberty certain to
see action against Iowa State.
Knight suffered a rib injury in
the first minutes of the Iowa
game and Lamberty is still weak
from the illness which caused
him to be left at home when the!
team travelled to Iowa City.
Doug Nelson, who saw 56 minutes
i action against tne Hawks, may
have to carry the brunt of wing
backing duties again next Satur
day, tho Lewandowski has shifted
Quarterback Joe Kessler to th
right half spot in an effort to
piug ine noie.
At left half back Jack Seller
continues to reign as top man,
with Ken Hollim and Rill Perdew
backing him up. Hollins starred
for the Huskers last year but has
been hampered by a leg injury for
this season. Perdew has shown
much promise and lacks only in
experience.
Bill Betz still handles quarter
back duties and has able support
from young Ed Gradoville who
completed the pass to Dedrick
that started the Huskers on their
way to their only score of the day
at Iowa City Saturday.
Fullback chores remain in the
hands of Junior Collopy, with
Joe Kessler and Murl Mauser
also groomed for action in the
plunging spot.
Line duties are now almost
permanently , held by Colerick
and Koenig at ends. Kops and
Lorenz at tackles, Kasdan and
Hazard at guards, and Doyle at
center. Exceptionally outstand
ing have been Doyle and Colerick.

Despite the loss of several Navy

the Jayhawkers still displayed a
fast-moving, hard-hitting eleven.
Nebraska accounted for the
lone loss, yielding to the Iowa
Hawkeves. 27-6. Tho definitely
not showing the spirit and style
used against the Missouri Tigers
a week before in a rousing up
set, the Huskers still made a eooH
stand and towards the end of
the contest were pushing the
Iowans back.

win by bowling over Wichita
University, 15-0. The Wildcat)

Missouri and Oklahoma will
provide the top league contest
of this week, with the Sooners
odds on favorites, especially if
Deiiestauous is not able to play
with the Missourians.
Nebraska and Iowa State
should also stage an interesting
game, with the contest being held
on the Husker home grounds. If
the Huskers click as they did
against Missouri, they stand a
fine chance of knocking the Cy
clones for a loss. If the hranri of
ball shown against Iowa Univer
sity is repeated a sure defeat
seems in store for the Scarlets.
The other conference contest is
the intra-state affair between
Kansas and Kansas State The
Aggie team, which started the
season from scratch, has im
proved rapidly the past two
weeks and may give the Jay
hawks trouble.
