Tight games were the order of the day in class A in the first round of the state high school bas ketball tournament at the coli seum yesterday, with Creighton Prep of Omaha nipping Lincoln high 25-23, Omaha South victori ous over Lincoln Northeast, 24-23, Scottsbluff nudging Hastings, 27 26, and Columbus whipping Kear ney, 31-21, for the widest victory margin of the day. South's victory over Northeast in the final game of the evening was the top tilt of the first round. Down 13-17 at the half, the Pack ers finished strong in the second half to upset the favored Rockets by a narrow 24-23 count. Prep Meett Columbus. As the teams advance into semi final games tonight, Creighton Prep is scheduled to meet Colum bus, while South tangles with Scottsbluff. Possibility of an all Omaha final thus arises, for if the Packers and Prepsters win to night, they will clash in the Sat urday night finals on the coliseum court. Meet The Iowa State college athletic council has reconsidered and ac cepted a bid to compete as a representative of the fifth district in the National Collegiate Ath letic association's western playoffs in Kansas City, March 24-25, ac cording to an announcement by Athletic Director George Veenker. The council had decided Monday to turn down the bid because of the possibility that the Cyclone team could not be held together until tournament time. The offer was renewed by the NCAA selec tion committee, however, and the council decided to accept the sec ond bid. J. A. Foster, teacher at Michi gan State, recently proved his do mesticity to one English class.
