First games are scheduled for 12:30 Thursday afternoon, with Class A competition getting under way at 3:00, when Columbus tangles with Kearney. Evening games in Class A find Creighton Prep of Omaha meeting Lincoln high at 6:30, followed by Scotts bluff and Hastings at 7:45 and Omaha South and Lincoln North east at 9:00. Regional Champs Seeded. Tha opening day's program brings together the four metro politan teams, Creighton Prep and Lincoln, and Northeast and Omaha South, thus giving assurance that but two of the big-city schools will survive till the semi-finals on Fri day. It had been thought that the Lincoln and Omaha entries might dominate the tourney, but the Thursday pairings take care of that possibility. The regional Class A champions Creighton Prep. Lincoln Northeast, Columbus and Scottsbluff were seeded, then pairings for first round games were drawn from a hat. Columbus, Kearney Meet. The Columbus-Kearney opener marks the second clash of the sea son for the two clubs. The Discov erers, winners of their own re gional tourney, conquered Kear ney, 35-32, in regular season play. The rest of the Class A tilts will bring the clubs together for their first meeting of the season. In Class B, unbeaten Holy Name of Omaha, top-seeded along with Sidney, meets Pawnee City, while Sidney faces Ord. In Class D, Hildreth, unbeaten Franklin county champ, and Trumbull, but twice defeated, were seeded. Junior Jays Class A Pick In Prep Meet BY HAROLD W. ANDERSEN. Creighton Prep of Omaha reigns as pre-tourney favorite for the class A title in the state high school basketball tournament, with Lincoln high, Northeast, and Oma ha South ranked close behind the Junior Jays in the dopester's pre dictions. The four metropolitan clubs, off their season's records, ranlat the top of the class A bracket, and Prep appears to be the strongest of the four. The young Bluejays finished the season with a rush, knocking off Omaha South to grab the Omaha regional tourney, and appear to have the stuff to cop the state championship. Lincoln high, Northeast , and South are only a step behind the Prepsters, and it could hardly be called a major upset if any one of them came thru to win the state title. Outstate teams certainly can not be counted out of the picture. Co lumbus, Scottsbluff, Hastings, and Kearney survived tough regional tourneys to earn the right to com pete at Lincoln, and all can be counted on to give some rough go ing to any team they meet. - ' J mr fact wat ywnfi young took.
