With
Lets see a lot of Cornhusker
rooters out there in the stands this
coming Saturday when the Scarlet
takes on the rough and ready
Iowaa Hawkeyes. This should be
a darn good game, and the cheer
leaders are going to need a lot
of good husky lungs.
Those boys are going to be out
there playing for the fun of it,
and for the school, and they de
serve your aid and support, bo
what say we get that 'ol time
spirit, and really turn out enmass
with some of that good old cheer
ing that really makes a football
game a football game.
A couple of the cheer leaders
and other people have asked me
to tell you that they sure would
like your support. It is a heck of
a lot of fun, win or lose, so I ex
pect to see all of your bright and
shining faces out there Saturday.
Well, the Big Six, and most of
the other leagues will just about
be wound up this Saturday, and
from these games will probably
come the final decisions of who
won what where.
One game that will create a lot
of interest is the College of the
Pacific game with the San Diego
Naval Base champs, who whipped
USC after the Trojans had won a
hotly contested game over the
COP boys. '
I sure, would like to see Alonzo
Stagg outfit take the Navy boys.
However, the grand old man has
lost plenty of power thru those
nasty Marine and Navy transfers,
and it seems doubtful as to
whether they can win or not.

Coasting down the homestretch
of the, season we find the game?
are getting tougher and tougher
to pick. Due to transfers, upsets,
and other phenomena beyond the
control of the lowly predictor, he
finds picking winners is anything
but a bed of roses. Casting a back
ward glance and whipping our
slide rule back and forth, we fig
ured out that our seasonal aver
age is a respectable (?) .775; we
picked 155 winners and missed 45
times with tie games being disre
garded. That percentage isn't ex
actly sensational, but we think
that it is pretty darn good for us.
The way we see it, this week's
grid battles will turn out as fol
lows: Dartmouth ever Princeton: With
one of the best teams in the east,
Dartmouth should take this one
easily.
Army over Brown: The question
in our minds is: What's happened
to the Cadets? This week should
bring the answer.
Colgate over Columbia: A firm
nod to Colgate.
Villanova over Temple: Villa-
nova exhibited plenty of punch
while losing a close one to a fine
Holy Cross team.
Penn State over Pitt: This is
one year when a lion can chew up
a panther.
Northwestern over Illinois: Any
team that can hold Notre Dame
scoreless for 29 minutes can whip
the Illini.
Purdue over Indiana: The Boil
ermakers steam on towards the
conference title.
Michigan over Ohio State: Paul
Brown's youngsters find out how
the big boys play the game.
Minnesota over Wisconsin: One
game that Minnesota can count on
Missouri over Kansas: Are those
Tigers mad! This game should be
a slight consolation for Mizzou.
Iowa over Nebraska: In which
the Hawkeyes win their first
game. (Boy, how we hope we're
way, way off the beam.)
Notre Dame over Iowa Sea
hawks: The nation's best service
team goes against the nation's
best "Civilian'' team and gets the
short end of the score.
Georgia Tech over Clemson: A
sure thing!
Tulane over L. S. U.: S. M. U
has been very unpredictable this
fall, while Tech consistently plays
fine ball.
College of Pacific aver San
Diego Navy: College of Pacific
gets their big chance to prove
themselves better than U.S.C.

Iowans Seek First Victor
Of Year at Scarlet Expense
rv
Drilling right up to the
minute for the coming invasion
this Saturday of the Iowa Hawk
eyes, the Nebraska Comhuskers
went through contact scrimmage
to sharpen up their offensive
power and drilled overtime on
pass defense.
The Iowans boast a flashy pass
ing attack, and Coach Ad Lewan-
dowski is taking no chances on a
repeat of past aerial blitzes. The
Scarlet, now more experienced
and polished than at the begin
ning of the season, probably will
present a stiffer aerial defensive
than in the past, and they also
sport a passin' attack, so the
game should see plenty of ball
throwing.
Teams Lose Power.
Both teams have lost plenty of
reserved and first string power
through the draft and ineligibility,
and are weak on reserves, but
from all expectations, the game
should be close, with the Iowans
given a slight edge on the betting.
However, Lewandowski and the
Huskers plan a little surprise for
the Hawkeyes, who are still seek
ing their first victory of the sea
son, and if the Scarlet gets to
rolling, it is not improbable that
the dope bucket may be upset.
The Nebraska starting lineup
will be slightly changed around
since the Kansas State game, with
Ted Kenfield again slated for the
starting quarter spot, and Ellyson
in at fullback instead of Smith.
With Kenfield back in the start
ing role, and Gaiter on the re
serve list the Huskers should have
plenty of passing strength, to
match the Iowan attack.
The probable starting lineup for
the Scarlet will be: Bert Gissler
at left end, Bill Hill at left tackle,
Goldstein at left guard, Randall
Salisbury at center, Hazard at
right guard, Jerry Jacupke at
right tackle, Schneider at right
end; the backfield will probably
be: Ted Kenfield at quarterback,
Buzz Hollins at left halfback, Gus
Eager at right halfbaok, and Elly
son at fullback.
Iowa Wants Win.
The Iowans, still smarting from
the beating they received at the
hands of the not nearly so strong
as when they beat Nebraska -Gophers
of Minnesota, will be
pointing for their first win of the
season.
