Friday, OcteKer 29, 1943 DAILY NEBRASKAN 3 3 JhJwMk. With I am going to put my chip on the University of Nebraska Corn huskera this coming Saturday. Even though the Huskers are draft riddled, . . and somewhat weakened through ineligibility, and green, I am firmly convinced that they have a team that is a winning and scoring team. The boys have got plenty of that old fighting spirit, and .the desire to play the game. With the experience and confidence that they have gained in these last couple of weeks, and the fine coaching staff that guides them, the boys have improved no end. Missouri is going to face a fight ing team out there next Saturday, and right or wrong, I am going to ride the Husker Band wagon Weak Reserves. The Scarlet is weak on reserves; but the boys in uniform are a game lot, and contrary to the be lief of some, are rough and tough despite their youth and inexperi ence. Bob Hazard and Bill Hill are a pair of good boys yfho have con stantly played heads-up football. Jerry Jacupke is as good a line man as one could find in the Big Six conference, and has shown plenty of guts and savvy in all of the games to date. Mr. Salisbury, who has played a lot of center for the Huskers, will probably be dumping Tigers all over the lot this P- ' ----- pii seasr Tut . um. a little hazy, but from past per formances, is not too gloomy. Ted Kenfield will be back in at the pivot post in Lewandowski's "T," and this should greatly aid the Husker offense. Two new boys are still to be tested, but I believe Gus Eager at right half, and Dick Smith at full will greatly surprise and please the Husker fans in the Columbia "T" party. As for Bum Hollins, nothing need be said, he is tough pi. ""i that is that. Second oldest coiiege publica tion in the country is The Round Table -of Beloit college, Beloit, Wis. It was founded in 1853. Cyclones F .1 Oklahoma Star AMES, la, Oct. 27. Practice sessions this week, while intensive. will be skeleton affairs with more than 20 of the squad who are members of the Navy V-12 unit away on leave between semesters of the Navy class work. The V-12 boys return to Ames, the latter part of the week. George Gast, right half, sua tained a slightly sprained elbow in the Sea Flyer game, and may not see action Saturday against Oklahoma. Cyclone players havs taken "StoD Brumlev" aji their wtr rrv in preparation for the Sooner game, jsod urumiey, quartercacK, a chief specialist at the Sooner school had a maior share in the Oklahoma 37 to, 0 victory over Kansas state Saturday. TDM Meadly ficmir TFigeirs Upset Planned By Underdogs With six men out of the lineup because of ineligibility and the draft, Coach Ad Lewandowski spent the majority of the week in trying to patch up his Husker outfit. The Nebraska mentor made one shift in the starting line and two in the backfield. Lewandowski shifted Smith, former second string center, Into the fullback vacancy of Jim Han sen, who was declared ineligible earlier in the week, and moved Gus Eager up from third string to first string right half. Bob Hinz, 278 pound guard, was also shifted up to the first team to re place Artie Meant, who was called up for the draft. Stress Offense; Wednesday night the Huskers were put thru a rough scrimmage, with the second string running Missouri plays against the first squad. The first team looked par ticularly good, and when on the offensive, functioned with ease-. The coaching staff seemed pleased with the win attitude that has de veloped in the Husker camp, and stressed offense in this week's training. The ends and back were worked particularly hard on pass ing offense and defense, and the return of Ted Kenfield to the Husker backfield unit seemed to bolster the offensive play. The Huskers will enter the Mis souri fray the under-dog, with most experts rating the Tigers possible conference champs, md spotting them two touchdowns over the Huskers. However, Coach Lewandowski and company are primed for this game, and the at titude in the Lincoln camp is anti- defeatism. Starting Lineup. The probable starting lineup will consist of: Bert Gissler at left end, Bill Hill at left tackle, Bob Hinz. at left guard, Randall Salisbury at center, Bob Hazard at right guard, Jerry Jacupke at right tackle, and Schnieder at right end. The backs are: Ted Kenfield at quarter, Buzz Hollins at left halfback, Gus Eager at right halfback, and Dick Smith at fullback. No lineup has been received from the Missouri camp, but the Juke Box DANCE 9 to 11 :30 Ton ire ' Union Ballroom No Charge powerful Tiger outfit, augmented with naval personnel, will field a rough and ready club, built around Don Reese, one of the outstand ing fullbacks in the nation.
