THurscfcry, April SO, 1942 DAILY, NEBRASKAN 3 V Ed Weir Takes 15-Man Team on Eastern Track Jaunt Back to West Point Failing as yet to name his squad for the Saturday test back at West Point, Coach Ed Weir is hopeful for his clan's showing in the triangular meet featuring in addition to the Huskers, West Point and Columbia. Since Arden Kersey and Paul Davidson are out of competition for the remainder of the track season due to ineligibility, Weir will have to shift his men around into their various events very prudi riously to maximize their efforts. Davidson ran the quarter during the indoor season while Kersey took the load of the half miler. The head cinder coach announced that he would take a 15 mnn squad to the Hudson river encounter. Littler Slowed? Eugene Littler, sprint specialist, showed the effects of his recent pneumonia attack at the Drake festival last Friday and Saturday and will undoubtedly stay out of nil but the short sprints until the Dig Six come . Dill Connor and Al Drown will take over the quarter mile duties which, up until now Littler has been varing for very adequately. Conner, who is a sophomore, started off the indoor season running the half mile but was not satisfied so switched to the 440 where he found himself. Drown is good in the short sprints and in the relay events. Wibbles Ha Hope.. Edsel Wibbles and Vic Schleich will try to redeem themselves for the Drake episode where, ham pered by bad weather, neither per former could take a first. Wib bles, a consistent shotputter who tosses the iron pellet in the close vicinity of 49 feet, was held to 45 feet at Des Moines. Schleich could not do much bet ter with his tosses, which put him fourth in the event at 47 feet, 10 inches. Both are sure they will do much better in the other meets, provided the weather is not a dup licate of the Drake variety. Hunt Had Off Day. In the pole vault, Harold Hunt had an off day but has been work ing out this week and is positive he will climb the Hsfoot limit. Howard Debus will also be entered in the vault event. Bill Smutz and Ralph King will be out to avenge their hurdle deb acle at the hands of the Big Ten last week. King took a fifth place and Smutz was not in the scoring. Wright Went Down. Bob Wright, Ohio State's great hurdler, was forced out of the run ning of the 120 yard high hurdles which obviously slowed both King and Smutz in the same race. The probable squad entries for the West Point meet: Eugene Lit tler, Robert Ginn, Harold Hunt, Bill Smutz, Ralph King, Bill Con ner, Edsel Wibbles, Al Brown, Jim Brogan, Victor Schleich, Howard Debus, Paul Johrde, Kirwin Eis etiliart, and two others. It is not known whether Don Morris will be in shape for the trip due to a pulled muscle at the Drake tests. 7. (WV ardon our Oxford accent . . ARROW V-n By Bob Miller I SOME of the Husker diamondcers received an actual taste of war censorship on their recent four-game trip through Minnesota and Iowa. . .It seems that a car load of the ball payers were riding around a big airfield in Minnesota where there were several of the famed flying fortresses poised for a hop to Nova Scotia... It was one of the largest flying fields in the Gopher state and the car load was taking in the Inspiring sight. DEAN Jackson, Husker footballer and catcher on the current Husker team, was so Impressed with the sight that he pulled out a camera with which he had been shooting other scenes of Interest around the Minnesota Institution. . .He had scarcely gotten the picture mapped when the car, driven by Ernie Swanson, Hurler, was stopped by a uniformed sentry, rifle In hand. . .Jackson had to give up the camera and the films until the next day when he got his camera back sans film... After a little thought, the team agreed that It was actions like that that will help to win this war. BIG Bill Daley, Minnesota fullback, is continuing in the same manner this spring. ..Last fall, Daley was playing in the same back field with Bruce Smith, Heisman award winner and All-American and many of his achievements went unnoticed. . .In the Nebraska game it was Daley who was the spark that drove the vaunted Gopher car avan to a narrow 9-0 verdict. . .In spring drills he is doing himself up in the same style and now is getting just credit for it... In a scrimmage session last Saturday, Daley according to the Minnesota Daily, ran wild, cracking through the tackles and skirting the ends for gains that ranged up to 40 yards. On defense he was the usu.il Bill Daley, bring down his opponents with bone-rattling tackles . . . Just credit where credit is due. mil SMTvm -OfT- tit rui Lnlere's a winner on every campus!
