, Style Trends
Are Limited
n n
Due to War
Few Drastic Changes
Expected in General Cut
Of Clothing but for Cuffs
By Rod Monismith.
Judging from the activity in the
market, it is easy to see that mer
chandise is going to be rather
limited this coming fall.
The War Production board made
the ruling, that no store will be
allowed to put cuffs on the trous
ers you buy after March 30 of this
year. This is definitely a rule that
is punishable by the W. P. B.,
whereby any store that fails to
meet this rule will have its supply
of clothes cut off from delivery.
For you Joes that wear nothing
but double breasted suits. . .sorry
but the W. P. B. won t yet you
have a vest when you buy your
suit.
As far as the general cut of
clothing is concerned, there will
be no drastic change in styles, ex
cept for the cuffless trousers.
For spring there will be no ex
treme novelties. Flannels will fit
nicely Into the style picture. Grey
flannels will be considered stand
ard equipment in your wardrobe
this spring. Plain effects are par
ticularly important. This of course
takes in flannels, worsted flan
nels and the variety of such simi
lar clothes.
The softer type fabrics, such as
shetlands and tweeds are cer
tainly holding their own, even tho
r it is generally believed that this
Xype of clothing is objectionable
for warm weather wear. Actually
this type of goods is more porous
than the flannel.
Simplicity Rules.
The general tendency is toward
medium shades in clothing. Here
again, simplicity rules. Varities
and ideas taken from twill goods
are going to be the most novel
idea you will see this spring. It
is not the heavy type of fabric
that is generally associated with
twill, but tends toward the finest
of a gabardine.
With odd Jackets, the number
one alack is flannel. There is no
indication that anything but plain
colors will be wanted this spring.
The important fact about jackets
that has been growing the past
few seasons is the moderate addi
tion of length.
The pockets are set lower so as
to create a long style coat which
ties in with the lower waist line.
While we are speaking of the
waist line we add that the coat is
only sliehtlv simnretmed with a
straight hanging back, with mere
ly a tapper from the shoulders
wn.
As to the unit mfwiol tVi thru
ouuon continues with only a
"light change. This is the longer
rolled lapel.
We make the prediction that in
few years the two button,
peaked lapel will be the outstand
ing change in the style of men s
clothing. The double breasted
jacket still retains it position in
ppropriate type fabrics, altho the
threebutton single in smooth
fabrics seem to have the edge on
60-40 basis.
