No, It isn't the Gestapo or the rogues gallery; . . . it's part of Ben Simon and Sons own "G2," . . . intelligence service to you . . . which concentrates on fer reting out the fashion foibles of the masculine mind of Joe College on the Nebraska cam pus. These enterprising opera tives; Phi Delt Nick Douvas, kinds to be found at Simons. Beta John McCarthy, Phi Psi Chet Bowers, and "Jerry" Thompson, Phi Gam; are but a part of Simon's student staff, especially trained to counsel the bewildered collegian on what to wear, and when, . . . and how! Tommy Miller, ATO; and Alex Mills, Sig Alnha, also know what is cooking for the collegiate wardrobe, and, like Chet Bowers all the rest of Simon's Fashion conscious staff, they would like to wise you tip. . . . next time you wander in to look at the super stock of apparel of all kinds to be found at Simons An insatiable desire to see the latest in spring apparel led us up to the second floor the other P.M., where we found many smooth operators bedecking themselves . . . from a magnifi cent srray of spring finery. They had found out what we did; that Simon's have discov ered, through their student style experts what we'uns want . . . and they've got it, in that ultra stock. WORRIED LAD Who got a new lease on life at Simons, is Ray "EDOC" candidate" Grimes, Z3T who was planning the Importation of a mysterious Omaha beauty for the Prom. Yes, we said Y . .. : . v -V HIHIl., L i ii.. n A Mr. Smoothie . . . Consider What Your Ties Can Do for You or BMOC ... If You Do It Right We were sitting in the grill the other day watching all the smooth Nebraska men parade from booth to booth, when we heard a net little coed remark, "No, I mean the blond over there on the left. Isn't he handsome? And just look at that tie you can tell he knows his way around." As we hastily straightened our own cravat, we glanced enviously at the blond and noticed that he was wearing a maroon knitted tie. The casual type, you know, that screams expense and good taste. Determined to find out more about this business of "ties make the man" we cornered the coed and learned that a man's tie is as much the secret to his personality as the shine on his shoes, if that means anything. Here are the sordid facts: You can't be a "campus smoothie," the man who always has more women than he knows what to do with, unless your ties are in good taste. Evidently the prerequisite for a typical campus Joe is that casual tie we mentioned before. The Nick Douvas "was." Tia rumored that said "belle mysterioso" is confined with . . . you guessed it, friend, . . . the measles. Ray is re ported testing quietly and waiting for an official com munique. In fact he doesn't even look worried .... just smoother than ever. It must be the new tan Cashmere sport coat he is flashing, . . . and it's a beaute, selected from the many tan models for spring, shown at Ben's. CLOTHES CONSCIOUS CASANOVA from the Phi Delt house is footballer Bob Deviney. When Bob breezes down to South Sioux City to keep the home fires burning, he will be look ing smooth and especially per suasive in a new sport tan gab ardine suit, selected from the enormous Simon stock. . . ... ... i 'f ' i M- ' i W in 1 1 n . . John McCarthy women like the tailored, effortless look that goes with it. The BMOC is inclined to the more dignified style. A plain color which matches or contrasts his suit is the only choice. Some BMOC's go mad with a thin stripe or small print. But nothing loud, you know, and nothing flashy. Correst, is the word. And then there's the student. He doesn't bother with the color (he's color-blind anyway) or the style. He grabs the nearest piece of cloth, loops it once, and drops the matter. The color is liable to be a blinding green and then again, it may be a dull brown. If he's wear ing a black suit, it's probably a brown tie. The "Gosh, you're glad I'm here" man doesn't stop with a stripe. He tramples right over convention and runs riot with dots and dashes of rainbow design. You can always see him coming two blocks before he gets there. And the tie is shiny silk. As for the ordinary man on the campus cords, sweater, etc. they never wear a tie anyway, so why worry? FATAL FASCINATION which Phi Delt Bud Boyden has for former belle about the cam pus, Chi O' Jo "I want to be Prom girl" Duree might be one result of his super and suave new wardrobe additions from, . . . you know it, bud; Ben Si mons. The topper of his torso covers is a light tan Pan Amer ican Shetland by IJart Schaff ner and Marx. Fashion futures say . . . Shetlands are it this season. But that's not all Jo's playmate has. Plenty of class Is the verdict on his mixed her ring bone weave sport coat; and he has light swiss calf shoes to complete his coed catching collection of spring finery. ?a7 Jerry Thompson x SOOTHING, SATISFYING Simile is "Like a fashion page from Esquire," but "like a Si mon's fashion display" is even a more suitable saying. Like wise will all agree when they cast their eyes on ATO Tommy Hood's new Simon's Spring Special. Of course it's an Kagle suit styled by nationally fa mous Scott Barie. This Simon s Sensation is a light tan flannel, with a long full drape, double breasted, broad lapels, and def-p pleats in the trousers. AND SO ENDS . . . another day of the Ben Simon fashion parade ... and more happy college kids wend their homeward way; not weary and worn, though, but happy and stylish with their newly acquired vestial finery.
