backfield shift, speedier execution
of plays from punt formation, and
practice with 'the throttle wide
open' ", according to reports from
the Cyclone camp.
The Cyclone staff, headed by
Ray Donels, formerly head of the
freshman footballers, saw 13 ma
jor winners return, along with a
group of 29 hopefuls which in
cludes three holdovers of minor
awards and 13 numeral-wearing
sophomores.
Backfield Presents Problems.
Eiggest problem for immediate
solution is that of improvement
in the backfield. To date, Donels
has concentrated on two combina
tions, one all-letterman quartet
and the other made up entirely of
sophomores.
Always strong for man-in-mo-tion
attack, the Iowa State head
man will field a team that banks
on running and passing combina
tions and getting-the-jump block
ing. -On this basis, quarterback
Royal Lohry, and fullback Paul
Darling, both juniors, have been
combined with two senior half
backs. Bob Seaburg and Lincoln
Stewart for most of the offensive
work.
Sophomores Show Promise.
With first-strinz status bv no

sophomores Harle Damon Quar
terback, George Harville, fullback,
teamed with Roe Williams and
Charles Schalk in the halfback
slots havj i l,so shown promise of
making a strong bid for starting
positions.
Numeralmen Quarterbacks who
nave also seen service are Vic
Weber and Howard TiDoee. whilp
from the same list come George
uasi, tsou Lctcnberg, and Al
Beckham.
