Dear Sports Fan:
It doesn't seem too hard to
write a letter of introduction, but
when you try putting the proper
words in th proper places . . .
well, take it from us, it is . . .
The one and only purpose of this
little missile is to let you (all
seven thousand of you that are
clamoring to read this) know who
will be editing the sports copy
for the coming year . . . That's
where we come in . . .
With introductions concluded,
we would like to mention in a
smalt way the debt we owe Jim
Evinger who used this column
last year for the help he has
given in getting us started along
the road of sports . . . Inciden
tally, Jim did his job in bang-up
style last year to hang up a
good record , . .
As this is merely a get-acquainted
column and not one in
which precious (?) information is
to be divulged, we have decided
to formulate some type of an edi
torial policy . . . Our primary
concern will be a wider and more
comprehensive coverage of all

program ... In this way we hope
to get the average sports fan
better acquainted with sports that
he scarcely knew existed ... If in
our ramblings we can accomplish
this In some small part we will
be content . . .
With so many things happen
ing in the last few weeks in
cluding the draft, defense jobs,
etc., to drain some of the ath
letic manhood from Nebraska, it
is our fervent hope that this
university will maintain its
leadership of the athletic pa
rade in the midwest ... In
every sport from football to
fencing inroads on material have
been made but as long as a
group of fellows with a desire
to compete and a coach with a
desire to see them compete can
team together . . . Then op
ponents look out . . .
Nebraska's athletics now going
into the fifty-second year have
been a symbol of clean play, fair
ness and skill . . . During this
athletic year there will be many
sophomores performing for the
Scarlet and Cream for the first
time . . . May they remember the
tradition which has preceded them
and may they devote their ener
gies to place Nebraska still higher
in the realm of sports . . .
With this last dissertation off
our minds we can end this inau
gural column and pick up to
morrow ... So, as some one
said, "Thanks for listening." .. .

Roy Lyman tutors
Husker linemen
With an All-American record
behind him and with a profes
sional players fame to help him
along, Roy "Link" Lyman came
to Nebraska four years ago to as
sume the duties of head line coach.
A Nebraska product all the way
through, "Link" achieved fame on
the Husker teams of 1918, '19 and
'21 as an All-American tackle. He
was placed on all of the major All
American teams and was accorded
western honors in 1921.
In 1922 Lyman went to the Can
ton Bulldogs where he remained
for three seasons. He joined ranks
with the Chicago Bears in 1926 and
remained on the team until hang
ing up his suit in 1934. While
with the Bears, Lyman was one
of the outstanding tackles of near
ly a decade.
The experience gained as a
tackle has qualified him for the
big job of producing a good line,
a Husker tradition. Last spring
